I need to purchase a 12-bolt rear end for my project. I'd like it with a locker unit of some sort, and 3.36 or 3.42 gears. Can anyone recommend an affordable source for new or good-quality used units? I'm in LA. Thanks.

They are getting as rare as hens teeth, but perhaps someone will PM you. They can be had for the right $$$. May also want to look at the 2nd Gen 10 bolt from a Nova series body. Posi's are easier to find, and supposedly almost as strong(?). Also, you can just buy a new 12 bolt from aftermarket sources. I think if you do a search in these forums you will get lots of hits on "12 bolt" and "10 bolt".

Good luck-

Check with Big Gear Head here in the Tranny section, he handles the Eaton and other brands and has the expertise to help you get it set up right, VERY important.
Give him a buzz at his home listed in his site here or he might also catch your post here and reply too.

The cost of used original 12 bolt rears is outragous. If your doing a concourse resto, I can see spending the cash for an original 12 bolt otherwise do yourself a favor, call Moser Engineering. Im on my second one, these guys can flat out build a bullet proof rear. For right at 2k you can have a 12bolt housing with nodular iron tubes(welded all the way around, not some silly rosette weld) 35 spline axles, your choice of eaton posi or locker type, ford ends with big bearings(never have to worry about c-clip failure), gear of your choice, yoke and perches welded on to bolt right in. Cant go wrong, stronger than any stock 12-bolt, and not abused.

Sorry if I sound like a salesman, It really is a nice piece of hardware.
You will not be dissapointed.

The Nova 8.5 10 bolt can be built strong for less money than a 12 bolt. The Moser rear end is very strong, more than a stock 12 bolt, but expensive. It just depends on how much money you want to spend.
