Hello Guys,

A friend of mine wants to sell an X11 car, with Lemans Blue code, and 711 interior on the tag. The car suffers from a severe case of rust in the Z channel on top of the windshield, as well as surface rust on the underside of the roof panel and throughout the interior (which is absent the seats and most of everything else.
The quarter panels look OK, with the passenger side already receiving a patch panel (tack welded on) on the lower half. It would need a full floor panel, and trunk panel. It does have the clutch pedal and a big hole in the tunnel, so it was a straight drive car.
It has drum brakes, drivers fender needs replaced, no hood, engine or transmission, and a 10 bolt rear.
Anyway, he wants ~$1,500 for this car. Considering that a project car doesn't come around here too often, and that I like the original color combo, I am considering making the purchase.
What do you think?
I have never built a project car, but with my Machinist background, and little bit of welding experience, I think that I could handle it.

If he is a good buddy offer him $500 and settle at $750. Gonna take a lot of dizzo ($) to put her back together. Unless, of course, you have a pretty clean donor car or if you were to use this as a donor but, it sounds like it's bones. Good luck.

I'd make a shopping list and add up what it would take to get it done. Any chance its an SS? That might make some differnece. You'll probably be upside down real quick on a non SS. Of course I'm that way on my X44.

P.S. Were you at Whitakers on Sat.

Edit: I re-read the post "drum brakes - 10 bolt" = non SS

Rojo,

Don't know where Whitakers is, so don't think I was there Saturday. Mostly hung around the house Saturday, down here in Greenwood.

I also missed the show at Lowe's Motor Speedway a couple of weekends ago. My brother went, said there was once again a lot of cars on display.

Thanks for the responses. Considering the drum brakes and 10 bolt I was confident that this wasn't an SS model, but it would make a good candidate for a "build it like you want it" car. Could even badge it with SS and fool some people.
I also thought the price was too high, all considering. Perhaps in time he will drop below $1k.
