My tranny was bleeding fluid from the speedo bullet. I ordered the bullet and some gears from Rick's. When I started to take the old bullet out I noticed that the bolt holding the retainer in was loose. I installed the new bullet and started to tighten the bolt and found out why it was loose, the hole in the tailshaft housing is stripped. Whats the easiest fix for this? Tap the hole? Find a new housing? I got to take the housing off anyhow to replace the drive gear for the speedo, should I just replace the housing then? If so, where do I get one? Thanks, Phil

The "easiest" I've found is to 'Heli-Coil' it.
Just buy the whole kit from any autoparts house or Industrial supply/hardware store and use it to install new threads in the housing.
The holes are 'blind drilled' so you don't have to worry about chips in the fluids if it was on the car, you just plug the gear hole while you work.
If you don't want to do it yourself, take it to any good machinist or mechanic and have them do the work. Shouldn't cost much or take to long.

O.k. Tailshaft housing is off. I put some locktite on the bolt and threaded it in until I had it tight and than went to check it later after the locktite set, and proceeded to snap the bolt off. I'm going to go by the local tranny shop that I use to sell F*** parts to and see if they got a housing laying around.
