HI, I am in the progress of restoring my 69 camaro. It is a factory X22 car but I don't have the oringal tranny or motor. Did the x22 cars come with a rear spoiler?

Spoiler was an extra cost option on all Camaros. Never part of the SS or Z28 package. You could order it on any car, from a 6 cylinder to a ZL1.

To be clear though, starting around April of 1969, I am of the understanding that spoilers were a mandatory option for Z28's (much like 4 speed & disc brakes) - correct?

Thanks for the input, I guess I will use the rear spoiler on my restoration.
Did the X22 cars have the rear fender louvers and chrome moldings?

Yes, they were a mandatory option, they were not part of the Z28 package. You still had to pay extra for them. That was the same time the gauge package became a "mandatory option".

Yes, X22 was Style Trim designation and included quarter louvers, drip rail brightwork, wheel well opening brightwork, and chrome trim on heatlight bezels. Also, b/b X22 and X66 had blacked out tail panel.

D80 air spoiler equipment became part of Z/28 equipment as of April 1, 1969 with a corresponding price increase of $32.65, the list price of D80. At that time a tachometer or special instrumentation became a mandatory option.

Does this imply that all Z/28's built on or after April 1st have spoiler equipment, or does this imply that any new orders for Z/28's would have spoilers, but not the ones that were currently in the system?

That is, if a Z/28 was ordered on March 30th w/o spoilers, would the factory have built it with spoilers and charged accordingly, or would it have been built without spoilers?

Curious,

Hans

You should be able to tell if it was sprung for a spoiler... Lots of spoilers on 69 Camaros.... Sometimes it's nice not to have one... ;)

I believe orders in the system prior to 1 April were built as ordered. First of all it takes time to get new material requirements ramped up. At this point in the year Chevy had hundreds of Z/28 orders in the system, some for stock some for customer order. Changes in equipment/pricing would have required a lot of notifications, cancelled orders and po'd customers.

Some years back a friend had an early May Z/28 without factory tach.

Thanks, William.

Makes sense to me. The reason asking was I didn't want people to assume just because someone has a post April Z and it doesn't have spoilers, than it can't be a Z....you know how the arguments go.
