im using an old junky hand build scrap computer from my brother. my windows 2000 would always pop up a message box that said to insert the windows cd to replace missing or modified files, so i finally inserted the cd. i tried to repair the files and just ended up doing a new "clean" install of windows. hahah stupid me, windows deleted all my user files so now all the programs that were installed like microsoft office, and photoshop dont work any longer even though everything is there! looks like im going to burn all my images and homework files to a cd and reformat the hard drive and install everything from scratch. might as well i had spyware like a mother.. and the computer was running crappy. not really much of a loss if i cant back up my files, just a few mp3s, old documents, and pics of camaros and things i have saved for a while.

If you reinstalled windows and the files are still there, the issue is that all the programs configuration is stored in the windows registry. Since you reinstalled the OS all that configuartion is gone. Probabaly the best thing to do is the reinstall the software. As for your personal files, take a quick look at this directory "C:\Documents and Settings". There is a possiblity that your files may be there if used a differnt user name the the first install. I can't remeber if the freesh install would delete that directory. It has been a while since I has used 2000 and I believe the directory setup in the same as XP, but I wouldn't bet my life on it. Worth a look.
