View Full Version : Increase legroom or headroom?

Just bought my first Camaro (1969 RS/SS 396 w/ buckets), and I'm fairly tall (6' 2"), and I'm finding it pretty cramped.

In the B-body cars, you could mount the seat back on a different set of holes to increase legroom. I'm wondering if there are any tricks in the F-body to increase the legroom or headroom in the front.

Thanks
Dave

easy fix dave. Im 6'1" but I sit tall in the saddle with shorter legs, my head always hit untill I have these made up and installed, the track of the seat goes downhill at an angle toward the rear seat, so as you back up the seat frame you also gain head room. It also doesnt butcher up anything from original. :) good luck

I did the same thing but I used 3/16" plate (w/welded nuts) and moved it back 2". There's a guy on ebay that sells ready made extenders for $30 or so if you don't feel like rolling your own.

I just relocated holes down 1" like gentleman before me , but I added a 1/2 spacer to front mounting to give me some leg lift to keep my butt planted when I slam the brakes.

that same method works well also if you go with an aftermarket seat that may be thinner and lower to the floor

I see seat extension/relocator pieces on ebay all the time. Might look into them.

I built a set last night pretty much like the handy examples above. Thanks for the info!

One thing I do notice is that if I look at the car from the front dead on, the driver's seat (I only did the driver's seat) seems to lean outwards a little more. I think the floorpan rolls away and outwards as you move backwards. Anyone else notice this?

I might shim up the back left mounting point a bit, but curious if anyone else ran into this.

Floors original? I lot of people replace them and don't get the seat plates level.
