View Full Version : Help Verify if Our 70 Z-28 is Real
Jim Neubauer Dec 21st, 05, 06:53 PM Hi, and thanks in advance for any help. The seller claimed it to be real. Does a 1970 Norwood Z-28 say Z-28 or anything on the cowl tag to idenify ?? What redline tach would they come with ?? Did any come with 10 bolt rear ends ?? I do see to bolt holes in the floor where the missing gas pedal would go. Vin is 12487NOR355364. Color shows 43 A. Is the A stand for a vinal top, or stripes ?? Thanks again for any help, Jim
pro1 Dec 21st, 05, 07:06 PM JIM.......THE NORWOOD CAR CAN EITHER SAY Z28 OR JUST 28.......THEY ALL CAME WITH 12 BOLTS WITH 3.73 THE STANDARD RATIO........THE STRIPES WILL SAY EITHER 10 OR 19 BESIDE YOUR Z IDENTAFICATION MEANING BLACK OR WHITE STRIPES......THE GAS PEDAL IS UNIQUE TO A Z ONLY...I HAVE BUDDIES AND MYSELF WITH CANADIAN DOCUMENTED CARS, MINE BEING CRANBERRY RED/BLACK STRPIES AND COLUMN SHIFT......www.hardcoreparts.ca
z10kl Dec 21st, 05, 07:08 PM 43 A is citrus green with white vinyl top. A z should have a 12 bolt in 70. Yes the gas pedal should bolt to the floor. I'm not shure if the holes are there in a non z. The cowl tag would have z28 or sometimes just 28 usually followed by a code for stripe color. such as Z28.19 A z with black stripes. or Z28.10 a z with white stripes. I think my tach is 65oo to 8ooo. I would have to check tomorrow. Mine is 4343 Z.28.19
Jim Neubauer Dec 21st, 05, 08:08 PM Thanks guys, that is very helpful. It does have a 28 on the cowl tag, but I do not see a .10 or.19, because the cowl tag has been sanded on. They sanded down the trim numbers, along with the cars build date. With the 28 showing, it sounds to me like a real Z that someone changed the rear end, Jim
Dayton68Z28 Dec 21st, 05, 08:22 PM 70 Z/28 had 3/8" fuel line and a rear sway bar.
RamAirDave Dec 21st, 05, 11:10 PM Along with the ball studs in the floor board to mount the gas pedal, also look for an aluminum spacer under the lower control arm bumper. The ball studs in the floor board are more "definative", as the spacers could have been lost in a previous front end rebuild.
Should have a rear sway bar and a 3/8" line as mentioned. Should have a 12 bolt also.
My 70 RS Z car's tag has been sanded down some also. But can still read the 28.10. 04A car, 65 65 PNT. Has an 8K tach in it, but dont know off the top of my head what the red/yellow lines are.
www.nastyz28.com is a great 2nd gen resource.

ChevyThunder Dec 21st, 05, 11:35 PM Not saying you should take the trim tag off but I am sure if it ever becomes an issue you can read the rest from the back side of the tag
Jim Neubauer Dec 22nd, 05, 11:43 AM Thanks for the additional help. I know about the gas pedal, but it is missing. I does have two holes in the floor. I don't know how to tell, or what the ballcocks look like. I can read 28 on the tag. I thought about taking the tag off, but if I sold the car, someone might think I was messing with it. Thanks again, Jim
z10kl Dec 23rd, 05, 07:01 PM Checked my tach. Redline 6500 to 8 grand
al8apexer Dec 24th, 05, 09:21 AM Z28
alum spacers on lower a-arm bump stops
large radiator and rad opening
deep groove pulleys
p disc brakes
rear sway bar with upper link mounts welded to"frame" section
rear bumper guards, holes in lower valance for mounts
"truck" style gas pedal with holes in floor (no other Camaro got the holes, lots were tossed when new carpets were installed)
6500/8000 tach with guages
T400 or 4speed
that is pretty much it
they were avail with both types of outside rear view mirrors, same for interior choices, console was optional
Jim Neubauer Dec 27th, 05, 06:52 AM Thanks for the additional comments. The tag has been sanded, but I can read 28.1, but not the second number of the stripe color. I can now also read it is a 06D build date. It has a 6,000 redline 7,000 tach, could 70 Z's came that way. The A arm bumpers have been changed. Is there anywhere I can buy a set of the aluminum spacers that go under the A are bumper stops ?? Thanks again.
