As many of you may remember, I have ranted before about not getting a raise in the past two years due to the counties budget whoes. My expenses continue to increase and yet, nothing, exept a notice from the county auditor that the re-evaluation of my home has increased it's value by 14%. Hence, another property tax increase. So, this week, two of my partners are called to the bosses office. Very secerative. THe newer of the two comes to me asking If I knew what it was about. I was never called. I had no idea whatsoever. A little snooping and I found that others had been called and at this meeting a sound "good job, here is your raise information" was doled out. So, I felt as though I was not receiving a raise again, this year and I was upset. My co-horts returned and I was told, they did get a raise. I heard nothing. So, I have spent the past day or so planning my options. Retire? Go out on a medical? Stay put? Like I said, I was upset.
Just a short while ago, my director handed me an envelope. It is the same envelope I have gotten these past two years, the "county has no money, I have no money, you have no raise" envelope. As I braced myself and while looking up the number for my PERS office, I read the letter from my boss.
I got a 2.5% raise (not great but good for this county) and a bonus will be in my paycheck tomorrow. So, it is indeed a good day. I promptly sent him a thank you e-mail.:beers: :)

Congradulations man. Always great to find a little extra in the paycheck.
From previous posts sounds you like you deserve it.

Hey! Congrats Bud!

Word of advice - Tell the wife about the raise but not the bonus (Camaro money).

Codi, The County Auditor re-evaluation has increased my value too, so we all pay more taxes!!!!

California homes cost 14x what the same Ohio home does to begin with, so we're even... :clonk:

We have something similar to prop 13 here, tax RATE increaes are limited to 3% / year...
Unfortunately, there is nothing to keep the vounty assesor (auditor) in check, so they get their money by raising "property values" instead of "tax rates."

I'm currently in the process of fighting a 25% increase!!!!

Thanks Buck for the honest boss link above! Wow that is so on the money. I remember being ask to work a bunch of overtime once, and did not see it on the next weeks check. When I made a stink about it the bosses son warned me me to keep quiet about it or I wouldnt be asked for overtime anymore! Wheres the thought pattern here? I am so glad I am now retired, and hope everybody will get a raise, it is always needed.

Congrats on the raise. As said, any raise is a good raise, even if its a stool -- a better point of view is given........

I won't go into property assessors and the city's idea of tearing down everything and rebuilding with new and bigger, much less letting NAS Oceana go by the wayside........

THanks guys. It does feel good as I look at my pay stub. BUCK! It's the outhouse in your yard that kept your property value to a minimum. As for Hylton, Merry Christmas and I did exactly that. Bonus = Camaro $$. What she doesn't know won't hurt me and she can't spend it.

Call your boss and thank him verbally. Its all great that you emailed him, but a verbal phone call to him will stand out and be welcomed. In fact it could help you on the next raise given that 90% of the people just emailed a thank you, yet you took the time to call him/her and thank them over the phone.
