Anyone try running the factory GM serpentine belt system. Looks like a lot of bang for the buck. Complete with alternator, air compressor, pulleys etc. for $658? Installed I don't think it would look too bad. Only thing is what is the air pump for and where do you connect it? I looked at Gm parts direct.com for pricing. Could I use this with the rest of a factory air set-up?http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results.cfm Gm part #12497698

I believe that it's basically an V6 S-10 front accessory drive system. If memory serves, the air pump is dummied on the GMPP package.

I went with the March serpentine pulleys for my 69 small block
They work and look great
Just another option

Yes, it is a heck of a price of $658 for all the items listed. One can't buy aftermarket rebuilt A/C compressor, P/S pump, alt, and water pump for this price.

The air pump is for injecting air into the exhaust manifolds to further complete the combustion process. It is missing the electric solenoid for it as well as the ECM to control the "on" time of the pump.

We've used a few and they work good.Dont have the Bling factor of say a March system.Heres a setup that we had powdercoated.Jegs sells a setup in that price range. Im not sure if this one was from Jegs or GMPP.

If you run the GMPP setup, I don't think that they come with a smog pump, but possibly an idler pulley. You can ditch the smog pump/ idler pulley in the lower passenger side location and run a belt from an '89 S-10 blazer with a 4.3 V-6 engine. They came from the factory without a smog pump or idler pulley. As for the non a/c version of the kit, you will need to run the idler pulley that mounts where the a/c compressor would mount.

I have the GM system on my 68 and love it. I like the fact that if I have a problem, I can go into a parts store and get what I need. It is a breeze to install and looks good. I wish I would have powder coated my system though. I will get that done this winter hehehe.

One more thing. I am not bashing gmparts direct, but the price they show does not include shipping. Thats were they get you. I priced my set up from Pace Parts including shipping then went to my local GM dealer and see if they could get close. I beleive he came within $20, so I bought it locally. Check that out as well.

I like to use the GM system on my 69 a/c car but I don't know what to do about the a/c lines. What would you use to run everything to the factory locations? How would that work? Where would you get them. Anyone have any pics?

This all sounds like a great option at a much lower cost than March.March for me racked up about 2K.I think this would be a great look for a Pro-Touring car I don't think it would have went well with my car.I like the parts availabililty fact though. You need to know the style direction of the car as well...JMO...

I kinda like my setup. 75 bucks including the chrome water pump & alternator. Found in a box under the bench at a salvage yard I used to manage... I did have to buy the PS pump pulley & belt. http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/nhbandit/engine_installed_front_view.jpg

As far as I can tell you will have to make special lines. An air conditioning shop can usually make them for you.
