I have lost the nut that held the steering wheel to the column, does anyone know what size it is and C or F thread.

Thanks

Bob

Don't know the size, but it is a thin nut, about 1/2 the size of a standard nut. You might ask around to see if someone has an extra. I have an old half assembled steering column in the basement, I'll check to see if it has the nut on it. If it does, it's yours.

Bob,

I wonder if you just can't use a regular nut from a place like home Depot. They have thin nuts also.

Ricks has them for $1.70 (P/N HW-78) (http://www.rickscamaros.com/cgi-local/SoftCart.exe/cgi-local/smpagegen.exe?U+scstore+wqxh9583ff77af77+-p+-c+scstore.cfg+HW-78), but it would cost you more to ship it here than the nut costs! I didn't see it in the Classic Industries catalog, but since you are in So Cal, you might want to give them a call.

Hey Joe, I got two of those same size nuts at home as well.:clonk:

Bob, sounds like you need to take a trip to the local boneyard...any same era GM nut should fit...Hey, who knows what else you may find there...Mike:D

The lost nut will come home when he gets hungry!!!

The nut is 9/16" SAE fine thread. This is from a '69 non-tilt steering column. Ace hardware , or an auto parts store will probably have a nut with the same thread. It will be thicker than the original, though. I don't know if that will matter??....Jb

I bought a 7/16-20 for a lathe, the other day. It was thin, but I don't know if they had 9/16. Worth a look.

Look for a jam nut.
