The tag is real....not saying that it is the right tag for that car (but it appears to be)...or whether the car is a true SS/RS...

Ok...I found two things (after a little help from buddy) that prove It's a "trim Tag" Special

Do the rivets look a little funny? The bottom right corner of the tag looks like it has been pried up. Also if 555555 are the last six of the VIN it definately does not coincide with 10C for a build date. Isnt it funny how they are all L78s on ebay. Looks like a nice car though.

Look at the paint code. It say 71 pnt. I brought this up before and people are saying the paint code should be displayed as 71 71 pnt or 71 plus a vinyl code letter and then pnt. This tag only says 71 pnt.

Its also funny how they are all claiming them to be "frame off" restorations too, anyone that knows anything about these cars knows what a "real frameoff" is, nevertheless the car looks ok other than the wheels.

Sorry to disagree...The tag is a Trimtags special...Not real! Trust me! Don't claim to be an expert, but know what to look for,(though I won't spell it out here). This is a phony IMHO.. :)

Ok, since you wont tell, and I see the 71 missing, I guess my eyes are missing it.
Guess I need to look more closely!
Cant make it out but to me it appears that there is some code between the N and the X; & the 1 and the 2, like a numerical 1 under the paint there.?
Looks like the Body By Fisher is shifted too far to the right of the font centers....and the spacing between each line set.....just my guess.....
Interesting to note that this car states :
124379N555555
and
that Colorado ZL1 clone is :
124379L555555

Hi, All good observations, but they are not the giveaway. I don't want to make it any easier for the camaro forgers to fool the public. :)

correct me if I am wrong but that VIN is early , meaning a 10C of 1968 build...too early for an X code ...and the tag is not only fake..it's a bad fake.

I did some research. The vin# 555xxx is to high for a 10A build.
What year did the x-code cars start?

It seems to have an original RS windshield / head light washer motor / pump and solenoid
But you would think on a car this nice they would have sprung the 100 bucks for the washer hoses and vacuum lines for the RS head lights

Hopefully the VIN isa just a dummy number (ebay requires a VIN). It's a late 69 car, as it has angled headrests. Tag is a repro through no matter whatthe real vin is. Looks like there is some other numbers stamped in the middle of the tag, that someone tried to black out.

OK, now I am on the same page here with all of you.
I was overlooking that...12A or 12B for X codes approximately?

OK, NOW I see 2 obvious items of issue besides the serial numbers and X code!

Makes for better knowledge now!
Tag looks so clear; wish they were like that originally!

I was looking over the images, and I must point out he did a good job with the digital he had for us to look it over.
Lots of road wear underneath just covered over in black, and that rewelded chambered exhaust- that too bad but a nice approach.
Went to the trouble to add the rear discs but I look at the fronts and , well...

Dont want to kill his sale but I love a nice paint job!

Wouldnt that vin sequence number put it around late Feb early March area?

Sometimes I see the X codes shifted left and right under the NOR.
That they are not always in the same centerline order.
Why do you think that this occurred?

"frame-off" ??????

LOL

what a POS

an ok $20k driver with the 67 door edge tags and the rusty trunk floor and the oversprayed door latches and the missing seat hinge covers and the blue underhood paint and no deep groove pulleys and for about a 6.5 rated car (from the pictures, I imagine it is a LOT worse in person).

Why is it EVERY big block is an L78 now?

Is that like how EVERY other 69 Camaro is now a Z28?

What a bunch of crooks!!!

no rust becasue it is all now bondo, undercoating or cheap repro parts

(WHY do people buy those crappy repro door panels and then use ACE hardware screws to hold them on????)

As far as the tag goes, it looks real, body by fisher is in its correct spot. The build date is wrong for the vin number, and the X code I think is too early for the build date on the trim tag, but I may be wrong there, I thought the X coded cars came out around the third week of NOV. But The only thing I can see is the X-22 is over alittle too far, the X should line up with the first number after NOR, two lines below it.

First, I don't believe the real VIN has been posted on the auciton. However, regardless of what the correct VIN is, there is no doubt in my mind, that tag is a fake.

More than one dead giveaway on this one.

It's up to 31 grand, it might make the reserve.
