View Full Version : Whats The Going Price On A True 1968 Z-28 ?
kimmer Dec 26th, 05, 07:26 PM Well, I have a 1968 Z-28 camaro that has been in our family since 78. My parents bought it in 78 and I was given it about 10 years ago, but just haven't had time to restore it. I put a 70 vette 350 in it to be able to drive it but I also have the numbers matching original 68 302 MO block, forged crank, heads, etc. I even have the original 5 blade clutch fan. The tranny and rear end are no longer original. I found the guy with the rear end, but he won't return any calls on my offers to exchange the rear ends back to our original cars. I plan on hacking the car into a custom ride, but after thinking more about it, I hate to ruin such a rare car. This car has the tic toc tach in the dash, the center console with gauges, but needs some new metal and the original block slipped a wrist pin back in 1985 which scored the cylinder pretty bad. I've been told the block can be redone no problem. I'm thinking about putting the car on ebay because I really don't have an interest in restoring it to original. I'd rather get a basic 68 camaro and build it to what I want and save this car to be a true 68 Z. Pretty much all the metal needs to be redone due to rust around the rear quarters, kick panels, etc. What can I look to get out of this car due to how rare it is?
1969 RS/SS DROPTOP Dec 26th, 05, 07:32 PM Try putting it on Z-BAY and see what it brings.
kristofer Dec 26th, 05, 08:11 PM protecto plate?
original drivetrain and motor?
all still original?
i have seen rust bucket rs/ss go for 13.5........i mean a rust bucket!
if you have all of the above...... i would say 20-30k easy............but thats just my opinion...what do i know
olympic69 Dec 26th, 05, 10:25 PM I feel like the '68 Z's dont get the respect they should, but that is only MY opinion. I think the RS/Z's look great, and of course I have colors I am fond of...good luck with the sale, I am not suprised anymore by what these cars bring!!!
Cheers-
Rob
COPO9737 Dec 27th, 05, 07:04 AM There is one for sale now for 82K. It's probably one of the nicest in the country. This is a completely documented frame off restored car and also the right color (Corvette Bronze). So who know what your car is worth until you advertise it. You may be surprised....
kimmer Dec 27th, 05, 07:12 AM Sounds like this is gonna be interesting to see what it goes for. By no means is the car nice. It looks good from a distance, but all the metal on the outside needs to be replaced. I'm sure some of you have seen chris kerr's camaro and that is the look I am after. I just hate to kill a true Z to do it. I hate to sell it too, because i'll never get another one, but also don't want to see it rot into the ground. I'm not real strong at body work so I really want something with nice metal and paint. I'm more of a wrench guy and interior guy. Thanks for the replies!
sleepsinshed Dec 27th, 05, 11:58 AM It's probably worth around $3000. I'll be over later with the cash! JK...
It's hard to put a value on any car these days. Just look at what they're going for on ebay. This is a great time to sell a car like this, so you might want to act soon in case the market cools. Maybe you could post some pics here so we can get a better idea of its value.

kimmer Dec 27th, 05, 07:08 PM I'll try to post some pics for ya guys. I know the motor is the original 302 MO and the numbers match. The motor is pretty much complete. The block, forged steel crank, camel hump heads and I believe the rods are possible original too. If the car didn't need so much in the body work department, I would probably keep it. I really would like a more modern setup camaro like chris kerr's is set up. Just hate to cut up an original z to do it.
Someone also pm'd me about the 5 blade clutch fan (has a new clutch on it still) and how many rivets the blades have. The fan has 5 rivets per blade. I know the normal history of the Z's, but haven't got into it to the point of rivets per blade if someone can fill me in?
Jonesy Dec 27th, 05, 09:34 PM Original 5 blade fans for the 67-68 z/28 had 4 rivets on each blade.
The bolt pattern on the fan where the clutch mounts is 3.25 inches.
I believe it is an 18 inch fan.
