I’ve put Dynamat Extreme on the firewall and was wondering if it will be enough to keep the engine heat out of the car?

I plan on doing the rest of the floors with Dynamat after I finish putting the Dash back in.

Any feed back on this would be great!

Thanks in advance

Garry I used a product called 'death mat' which is very similar to Dynamat, I doubled the layers at the foot well and along the tranny hump as well. Even with the carpet over all that, it can still get warm on your feet from the exhaust manifolds and pipes that run so close to the flooring. I dont think anyone can 'eliminate' the heat but mine was definately cooler on the feet that before the 'mat' was put in. If you have the material, double up where you can.

Where can you get the death mat product, I think dynamax is way over priced.

Thanks

I bought the bulk packages of Dynamat Xtreme off of eBay. Even with shipping costs, it was 40-50% less than buying it retail. Usually numerous sellers at any given time....

You might want to check out this stuff at, www.low-e.com It's available at most any metal building supply company. It's also available on Ebay, just search for Low E insulation. It's way cheaper than anything I've found and does a great job with NO moisture absorption.

Here's a pretty good comparison/tests of the different automotive brands, www.sounddeadenershowdown.com

The Low-E is not tested or mentioned here, I think because it's not really recognized as an "official" automotive sound deadener/insulation. It's main use is under the roof/walls of metal buildings and deflects radiant heat very well. It does a great job at sound deadening too, I will be using it in my current restoration. Here's another link with some specs & testimonials:

Sid69z's,
Would you just cut to fit and lay down without any adhesive? My floors get real hot!

Sid69z's,

Let me first say that I haven't actually used the Low E yet in a car but have read & heard nothing but good about it.

To answer your question....most people I've talked to and from what I've read, they reccomend using 3M spray adhesive. It's supposed to conform to nearly any shape and from the pics I've seen plus one I saw in person, it makes for a really neat job and is super easy to install.

On the car I saw with it installed, the guy had double layered it at the firewall and floor where the exhaust pipes ran. He put single layers everwhere else, doors, rear 1/4's, package tray etc... He sweared by it and said he'd never use anything else! I think it was his 2nd or 3rd car to put it in.

I have worked with it in metal roof installation, but you just roll it out and put wood stripping over it. It's really flexible & light weight. Works wonders for reflecting heat & sound deadening under a metal roof!!

It claims to have an R value of 7 or so with 97% radiant heat reflection. I saw some sound deadening specs somewhere but can't find them now, all I remember is they were better than the Dynamat Extreme. I'm personally not much into these type specs as I believe they are mostly meant for sales purposes.

I'm sold on it enough to put it in my current restoration....and hope to have the same story everyone else has that's used it!!
