I found a 69 coupe near my home and the guy is interested in selling but I have a few questions you guys might be able to help me out with to get a ballpark value before I make an offer. It’s a base coupe non-RS/SS 69, very low options - no spoiler, stripes etc. The paint is very worn and faded but the body seems straight and rust free. It definitely needs paint. It has a 327 and automatic trans. I don’t know yet whether that’s a powerglide or a 350. Did the 327 come with either or only the powerglide in 69? I wasn’t sure there even were 327 equipped Camaros in 69? The rear end is a 10 bolt and I expect probably has 3.07’s or some such in it. Interior is standard with buckets and looks tired but clean. The guy’s sales pitch to me revolved around the fact that the car is a one family since new, numbers matching, black-plates car. My question is, how much does that numbers-matching spiel affect things on such a low-spec bog-standard car?
Any opinions etc gratefully received.

Hi Andy, is it blue by chance? Early 69's got a 327 2bbl/210hp, pwr glide and 10 bolt. My first was one and had 2 something rear gears... The 327 was replaced with a 307 part way through the year... Numbers only mean something to someone looking for a numbers correct car. The seller is going to pitch that though to help his efforts... I would love to have a solid, completely restored or survivor 327 210hp 1st gen in my garage. I have driven a friends and it invokes a different driving experience than my '69 ragtop...

For me, numbers-matching means absolutely zero. GM made a great little car in the Camaro, but, I want my Camaro to be 'mine' so, I'm customizing it the way I want it to be. But, I'm also saving all the numbers-matching pieces just in case smile.gif Really, it depends upon what you want to do with the car, personalize it or keep it as an original. As allways, your mileage may vary.

Numbers matching and black plates mean nothing to me either, I was just curious as to how much it influences things. I don't want to pay too much for a car I'll have to paint more or less straight away. What do you think is a ball park figure. I looked at the NADA guide and they don't list a 327 but the low price on a 6 cylinder was about 4 grand and their description was for decent paint.
Dennis - yes it is blue, by chance :D Do you know the one? You live close enough to me to have driven past it like I do every morning.

As stated above the 327/210HP LF7 engine was the base V8 engine early in the model year, replaced by the 307/200 HP engine on January 1st 1969 as the base V8.

An SS would require a 350ci 300HP L48 engine as a minumum, or a big block. All SS's (except an L48 with a powerglide) will have a 12 bolt rear axle, an multileaf springs. SS's also require power front disc brakes.

Nothing wrong with owning a 327 Camaro, just don't pay SS prices for a base car. Figure a nice 327 Camaro is worth 14 maybe 15 grand or so in #2 condition. Numbers matching isn't going to add much if anything to a base car.

Now figure out how much it would take to get it back to #2 condition. 4 to 5K for a decent paint job and body work, if it needed a new interior deduct another grand, how about the engine does it run good?, need tires or wheels, etc.

Good place to start the discussion is around 8K unless there is other problems.

I have a '69 327/210 base coupe and it came with a turbo 350 trans as an option. The only other options on my car I could find are a clock in the dash and a fold down rear seat. I am currently restoring and modifying this car and I don't care a lot about its numbers matching. Although I plan to keep the parts that come out of it, like the original engine, trans and rear end. I will replace those with a 454, 6 speed manual and a 12 bolt.
