I am cleaning a dash i bought to put in my 72, and i would like to know how some of you have handled the job. This thing is very dirty, it looks as though it had never been cleaned. So far i've used ARMOR ALL cleaner, viniger and hot water mixed, and my fingernails. Up to this point my fingernails have done the best job, but now i no longer have any fingernails left! Help me out with some remedies you know of. Thanks!!

Mr. clean Magic eraser. used it on 30+ year old scum on my headrests and after a couple of passes, just like new. It will dull the surface a little, so you have to follow it up with McGuires vinyl preservative. Do not use Armour All !

TSP (Tri Sodium Phosphate) with a toothbrush. TSP available from any hardware store. Toothbrush available from your wife's toothbrush holder.

A great cleaner for cleaning vinyl is Woolite mixed with water - 6 parts water to one part Woolite. Use a good stiff brush and don't expect 30 years of dirt of come off with one pass. You don't want to use anything too stong because there is a possibility you could discolor the dash pad - that's why the Woolite/water mixture is ideal. After thoroughly cleaning the dash, you'll want to protect it. Amour All is fine. The fomula changed some years ago and it is now water based rather than silicon based. It's a good product (now) and unfortunetly still gets a bad rap. Keep in mind though, it's a protectant - not a cleaner. It has quite shine to it though that some people don't like. I use a product called Vinylex. Gives an OEM like new appearance. Also, try this http://www.303products.com/main.php?infopage=protectant#overview. For my money the best all around UV protectant and gives a nice, rich like new appearance. By the way, 303 also makes a great all around cleaner that would probably work well on you dash too.

Thanks for your feedback, it will help. I have no problem with using elbow-grease to get this dash clean, just need a product to go along with it!
