I recently picked up an original underhood light assembly for my "68" off of ebay. It needs to be restored and I was wondering if anyone knows the correct finish for the housing ( painted or plated )? Thanks for any info., RonM.

Mine was bought as nos and it is plated. I can email a picture if you need.

Was the underhood light an option? Where did it mount? I have a 68 RS/SS and was thinking of adding one but did not know if there was an underhood light in a 68 or where it would mount.

They were an option. They go on whichever side your dip stick is on.

It was part of the RPO ZJ9 (Auxillary Lighting) for "68" and "69". It included the ashtray light (fiber optic), courtesy lights, glove compartment light, trunk light and underhood light. I don't think the underhood light was available separately like it was for "67". Hope this helps, RonM.
