Is this a common problem or am I doing something wrong .How do you get these things to stay on and not effect the way the door closes? Also do they only come in black My interior is white ( 69)

Originals? I found the repros to be worthless.Split open after a few door slams. Although i hear Classic came out with an improved version.

Watch ebay for originals. May take awhile, but probably worth the wait....don't know about Classic's versionl but the ones I bought from Rick's a few years ago, were pure junk!

The windlace is held in place at the bottom by the door sill plate, and at the top by a little bracket sticking out from the windlace that is screwed into quarterpanel. Since the upper screw is not very apparant, (underneath the fuzzy, as I recall) many are removed with a strong tug, and the bracket is left behind.

I made new brackets for mine, but ended up getting a pristine pair off ebay that had the brackets intact. The brackets were not as secure as originals, so I was planning to use the brackets for show and sneak a little glue on the windlace for security.

If you are interested, I might be able to find the brackets.

The new ones available from Classic Industries are very similiar to the originals. They are nothing like the 'foam' junk versions I bought from Ricks a few years back. That said, they are made of the same material as the originals now and don't rip apart like the foam junk ones. As for door closing, I don't have a problem.

A couple of things,..perhaps the newer repos are better but the older ones are pure junk. Otherwise I'd suggest originals.

Regardless, most offerings will be in black, so,..go buy some adhesion promoter called Bulldog ($10 at O'Reily's) and Krylon Fusion paint for plastic, part number 2322, "Dover White". It will match your parchment interior perfectly.

Follow the directions for both products. It's very durable,..won't peel, scrape up, etc. This combo works great...you won't be disappointed.

As far the doors shutting properly. You can bend the pinch-weld in a bit (the lip the windlace is mounted) to give yourself a bit more room for everything.

Good luck
