: What should I do with my 309 master cylinder

I took mine apart and the front piston is pitted along with some rust in the bore. Can the bore be honed or would it need to be sleeved? Can I reuse the front piston? I think if I hone the bore there will probably be some pits from the rust. Would that be a problem?

I can send it to whitepost and have it rebuilt for $162. Or should I buy one of the the repos on ebay for $100?

It is the original m/c off of my '69 Z/28.

Thanks for the advice!

Honing could oversize it. If there are any pits it is unuseable in that condition.

I had one sleeved by brakecylinder.com for $75 including return shipping. I used the front piston from another master.

The repro 309s dont have all the extra codes on them that your OE one does. I have seen some that were stamped with the 'US', but it didn't look correct to me, and didn't have the date or OD code on the side.

If not concerned with originality, you could just use a master cylinder from the local parts store.

Thanks! I think I am just going to send it out for rebuild. No need in cutting any corners know. :)
