Hey everyone!
This is my first post on this site, and I was wondering if there was anyone here who could de-code my car.
I have a 1972 Camaro, badged as a Z/28. I know its not original, its in very good condition, and going to be painted here in a week or so. I'm going to keep it cloned as a Z, with some great hotrod add ons! For starts, I have a 461 roller moter mated to a turbo 400 and 3:73 gear. My question is how did my ride begin life? Here is the cowl tag. ST72 - 12487NOR - 144849
TR778 - 63 F PNT
10E - A51
Any help would be appreciated!!
Thank you, Mark

Check this place out http://www.nastyz28.com/camaro/camaro72.html
Color was Mohave Gold with tan vinyl top
tan interior with Front bucket seat, non-reclining
built 5th week of Oct I believe. Someone can correct me if I am wrong on this one.
The 5th digit in the vin will tell you what size engine came with it.
Fifth digit is engine code: D = 250ci, F = 307ci, H = 350ci, K = 350ci,ss, L = 350ci, z *, U = 396ci,ss
Z28 Verification: The 5th digit of the VIN will read "L".
SS Verification: The 5th digit of the VIN will read "K" for the SS350 or "U" for the SS396.

Kermi, you are the greatest! Thank you for your help. The car is now a nice metalic silver with Z/28 stripes and a 2 inch steel cowl hood. Like I said, it's in desent shape, I'm going to cherry the body out and re-squirt the car in a nice silver with the black stripes, and in the stripes I'm having ghost flames done in 'flip/flop red to blue paint. I have Weld Pro Stars on it now. I also have the stock Z wheels, but they are painted the wrong color. They are black instead of the grey that they should be. I'm almost done refreshing the motor (my oil pump pick-up tube weld broke and fell off) causing a serious oil pressure issue! So, I've tore it down and will replace the bearings and go completely through it again. (It was completely rebuilt into a 461cu in desktop dyno 625hp - 730ft lb torque thumper.) I would like to show you pics if there is a way to post them.
Since the vinal top was removed, are their mouldings available to complete the roof line? The car needs new glass and window mouldings too. Any leads?
Thanks so much for your help!
Are you a Camaro owner??

Yup I have a Black 69 SS 350 and a 69 Z11 396 (pacecar) that is just about ready to come off the rotissorie. I wanted to have it done last summer but some unforseen circumsances had me put the project on hold most of last summer.
I have found a 72 Camaro in a barn, and have been going to buy it, but there is title issues with it but I may be able to clear that up. I am planning on making a deal on in next month or so. If I get it it will be Cortez silver with black Z stripes, witch is my favorite color combo on a second gen camaro.
