can anyone give me a ballpark figure for how many quarts I will need to paint my '69?
I'm using the ppg base/clear system. is 3 quarts base and 3 quarts clear plus the reducers enough? Also, how many coats should I do?
EDIT:
i currently have a siphon feed binks gun, will using a hvlp gravity feed be worth buying? will it affect how much paint I will need?
thanks for the help,
marc

3 quarts 2021 clear gave me 3 full coats on my car using a gravity feed gun ( not a hvlp ). You may need more for the base color depending on how well it covers. I spot painted all the primer spots with base color prior to the overall paint job. It took 3 quarts of lemans blue to give me 3 coats.

Please make sure you have a large enough air compressor, CFM wise, to use a HVLP gun before you buy one. Check with your HVLP dealer on the requirements.

By law, in California, you are not allowed to use the older non-HVLP guns.
From what I'm hearing around here though is that you will be able to spray easier with the non-HVLP guns. They atomize better. To get a HVLP gun to atomize as well, you would have to put more air into it then the recommendation.
If you get a SATAJet RP, then you are legal and have great atomization. Same with the Walcom FX Geo.
Note that I don't really know the laws and just repeating things I've heard & read...

BTW---There are a LOT of professional painters that use Binks paint guns. You are really fine with the gun that you have...
