What is this?
It is hanging right at the steering column of my 1969 Convertible.
Currently one of the wires is disconected??

Is it suposed to be there - is it suposed to be mounted somewhere?

Hard to tell from the picture but it looks like a transformer. Probably connected to the radio to reduce noise from the alternator. If you look at it, there might be a Radio Shack sticker on it….

Why radio shack? this thing looks old. ... I think he's saying he doesnt think its original (nor do I) so someone might have installed it to cut radio noise - and if so, they probably bought it at radio shack. GM wouldn't have put that in there like that - most likely some previous owners work since it looks like there are two blue crimp/splice connectors in the background. What are the wires that its connected to run to?

It looks like a line transformer for boosting wattage for radio speakers. Yes it does look like a Radio Shack piece.

Could have sworn there is one of these on my 69 Z also.
Does not say radio shack looks like a old GM resistor.
I think it is original - need to look at the other cars.
But thanks.

Yes the blue stuff is a mess someone did of hooking up the radio - will get to that next, as soon as the restored radio comes back.

Was going to hook up the reverse lockout, and backup lights - when i saw that thing hanging there. I really remember that thing from the other 69 I did.

The reverse switch plug is gone, what color are those wires? I have 1-green and 1-black loose wires - are those them?

Here are another picture of the resistor. This is old GM - pretty sure.

The wiring is a mess under the dash of this car.
As far as I can tell - the radio may have shorted out in the past.

The reverse switch was disconected, and because the lockout stuff is all gone.....Someone cut off the reverse conector, and used the hot wire from that for the radio currently installed???? weird????

I have the original hot and ground from the radio, and a pink and black from the reverse switch. Still have to find one more pink for the reverse, and then test out the others for the new radio installation (radio just came back today).

I hate electrical stuff - it takes so long. Going to save it for the weekend.

Yes this transformer thing looks like it was hooked to the back of a radio a long time ago. But I took it off (I hope everything still works).
I have seen these before, maybe with the 8 track system.
I will find out if I need it or not soon.

That's an old iron-core wax-coated transformer - definitely not GM.

Thanks - Radio installed. Reverse lights working.
No need for that transformer thing at all - it's removed.

I had an original delco AM Radio, converted to AM/FM.
Turned out very nice... can't tell where the stations are, but will get used to it. Will set the buttons to my favorites.
