I have a 69 Camaro that I am doing some rust repair on. While working on the rear fenderwells of my car I have noticed they are not directly attached to the quarter panel. How was this done from from the factory? Was it just seam sealed? I'm pretty sure they were not spot welded...if anyone knows, I appreciate the help.

I believe the inner fender lip and the lip on the quarter panel were spot welded together.Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.I put new GM quarters and repro wheelwell housing my car and the flanges fit together and I spot welded them.

Is it possiblr the 1/4 panels have been replaced before you bought the car?
I've replaced several 69 1/4 panels and never encountered one that was not spot welded to the outer wheelhouse.
Some aftermarket 1/4's leave a gap about 1/8" wide between the 1/4 lip and the outer wheelhouse lip if the other body lines line up properly. This might have prompted someone to not weld the 1/4 panel in properly.

Both quarters have been replaced, and they line up fine, it just appears that there were no spot welds broken loose when they were replaced. They are in good shape...Oh well, if you say they were spot welded, it won't be a big deal to do it. Thanks.

It is possible that a panel adheasive was used to mate the 1/4 to the outer wheelhouse.

Would it be ok to use seam sealer on this area? Thanks.

You could use a semsealer from inside the trunk to seal the wheelhouse to the 1/4, if thats what you mean. If you want to do that use a good quality "flowable" seamsealer like Duramix.
