I think there's a rule that you should post the link to the ad when referencing Ebay. It's just the right thing to do. You'll get more folks to look at it and comment that way too. Folks like me, are just too lazy to go to ebay, and copy/paste the number into the search. BUT, I'm not too lazy to type all of this though..... :clonk:

Boy, you are lazy!!!!!!! Guy sure is proud of his "restoration" skills, I'm not going to waste my time picking the car apart, especially since it's FAKE anyway!

What's with all the big-block touches? Anyhow, for such a "perfect restored" car, he could have at least used something outher than the cheap stock black centerbolt valve covers. It's a nice looking car though.

Why would someone go through the trouble of putting on a fake X-11 tag? Wouldn't the car bring more money if it was an X-55, X-22, or X-66? One of these days I'm gonna figure out how to tell the real from the fake.

How do you know it is fake? I'm kinda new to this stuff.

Standard issue reply:

We dont discuss openly on the public forums on how we can tell a fake vs real tag in order to not give the repop tag makers our knowledge.

Why would someone go through the trouble of putting on a fake X-11 tag?

Was wondering the same thing. The X11 tag does't really disinguish the car as an SS. Must have been switched for color change only (re-sell red) is the only thing I can figure.

Whatever the reason for the repop tag you can spot it from a mile away...

I posted a question in this very forum, S396 trim tag???? I too can now clearly disguish the fake from the original. Not to put the info as mentioned above "We dont discuss openly on the public forums on how we can tell a fake vs real tag in order to not give the repop tag makers our knowledge" but, knowledge is power and the consumer should have the knowledge before a buy. Compare the fake e-bay tag with any other real tag, hint: take a look at my "question," scroll down the replys and you shall find your answer.

I personally think that all of us that read these posts should e-mail the seller and very mature and inform hi that his tag is a fake. this is what I sent to him----
Hello,
beautiful Camaro. You do know the tag is fake??? Just a heads up in case you didn't know. Thanks and good luck with your auction.

If the seller gets enough e-mails maybe they'll start re-thinking their plan of attack in the future.Just my 02 cents

Who the heck would waste time with an x11 tag when you take a ton of questions out with an x55 x66 or x22???????? I guess if you can't tell it's fake, you probably think all x11 cars are ss cars too?

I Too Have Been Looking At The Tag Difference Between Real And Fake. If Its What I Think It Is On The 69's Its Almost Too Easy, But What About The 67's And 68's. Are There Obvious Differences There Too?

Why change a 68, theres nothing on the tag that tells you anything except colr and interior. 67's are a different story, and no they are not as easy to pickout.

67, 68, 69 same clear "fake" trim tag identification(s). For those who have the knowledge; you can notice the fake tags as soon as you open the hood. Which brings me back to my point, we should inform those who do not know how to ID the real from the fakes. As for those who produce or buy the fake tags, do you really beleive they care as to "how close to the real tags they are," apparently; they are close enough too attempt a scam and make money doing it. We can stop them, buy educating the potential buyers.

This tag thing is all too confusing. Everytime I see a post on here, both real and fake, I print out a picture of the tags. I compare them to each other, and to my tags on my cars that I know aren't fake, and I can't see any difference. When I think I see a difference in the fake tag, I then compare it to another real one and see the same differences between the 2 real tags. All I know is that it worries me when looking at cars that it might not be what it's represented as and I can't find the difference in the tags to tell.

Yes, "the obvious differences..." are the same for 67-69. For those with the knowledge, you can clearly see the fake tags as soon as you open the hood. That brings me back to my point "knowledge is power and the consumer should have the knowledge before a buy," we should inform all how to clearly notice the fakes from the real. The scammers and the potential scammers don't care that the tags are not identical to the real ones. They know most people can not identify the difference. We can change that! Additionally, as for, "...in order to not give the repop tag makers our knowledge..." the fake tag makers compared the real with the fake, and they are content with their product even with the obvious flaws.

The tag makers have no incentive to update their tags as long as idiots keep buying them. They made an investment in hardware once upon a time and now are just turning out the tags. If people keep buying your product why change it. However, as more and more of them are identified as fakes people will start to search out other tag makers as the old tag makers tag are easy to pick out. As their market share decreases they have to make a decision get out of the market, or update their equipment. We don't want to tell them anything more than they can figure out on their own when that point comes.

And there is a new maker out there turning out tags that are VERY close to originals. I don't know who they are but unless you look really close your not going to pick their tags out as a fake.
