the 67 and 68 model L30 (327)have 275 HP with a 4 bbl carb and the 69 LF7 (327) Has 210 HP with 2 bbl carb. Does anyone know where the 65 HP was lost at in 69?

2 points in compression drop due to the heads and carb.

And I wouldn't put it past GM to have stuck 1.72"/1.50" valve Powerpack heads on the 210 hp jobber, but I don't know for sure vs the 1.94"/1.50" double-hump heads on the 275 motor?

pdq is right. Same cam, but more compression, the 4 barrell carb and intake and better heads. The LF7 did come with dinky little 1.72/1.50 valves.

Did the more compression come from Pistons? or smaller cc heads? It sounds kinda like the LM1-350ci 255HP and the L48-350ci-300HP deal, heads and carb are what made the differance of that 45 HP

Like was said above,..higher compression, larger valves, and 4 bbl vs. 2, made the diff between the 210 vs. 275 hp 327's.

But don't forget, even at 275 hp, that would be equal to about 220 hp at the wheels (20% penalty for drivetrain and accessory drag...today's cars hp ratings are measured at the wheels,..not flywheel as was the case pre-1972).

I know a few (ebay, etc) are lobbying for the 275 hp 327 HP to be held as SS's. I say no way. We're talking late 60's here,..not late 50's.

My opinion.

I'm not sure about the piston design, but LF7 was around 8.5:1 compression and the L30 had 10.25 if I remember right. I think the LF7's "power pak" heads had around 70-72cc chambers, while the L30 had smaller chambers.

Medium valve double-humps hould be right at 64 cc's and have about 160 cc intake ports vs the little valve powerpack heads right at 137 or so cc's.
