I was wondering how long can a newly built engine sit before being installed. I have a rebuilt 383 stroker and the car isn't ready for the installation. Any ideas on how long that the building grease lasts?

I've had newly built shortblocks sit for over a year. No problems. Wet the cylindar walls and milled surfaces with 30 wt to prevent rust and bag the assy up.

If the heads are ready to go, some like to take the springs out until it's time to install,..it's thought they could lose a little something.

Just make sure the engine and oil pump are well primed before cranking.

Good luck!

Definately back off the rockers if they are adjusted already. Coat the machined surfaces with a oil and bag it up tight as mentioned. Should be ok then.

Once you bag the engine, would it be worth it to throw some dissicant in there to keep out moisture? Like the stuff you use in a carjacket for storage.
