The build date for my 69SS is March 24/69. It presently does not have its origional engine that it was born with. I have the opportunity to purchase a bare "618" block with a casting date of March 19/69. Would this block be considered to be dated too close to my cars build date?

It's remotely possible if it's a Flint block and a Norwood car, depending on the engine assembly date stamp on the front pad, out of the question if it's a Tonawanda block or a Van Nuys car.

First, let's define your 'build date'. How did you come up with 3/24/69?

Kurt, I have the GM of Canada documentation that shows that date. Also the cars trim tag has a 03D stamping. I will email you pics.

That's the ship date. Not a realistic cast date, just too close....
Thanks for the data!
