What are the differences in the reproduction 4053 Holley carbs as compared to the originals? Where is this information documented/found? Do they look identical? Do they perform the same? Any comments on paying $90 extra to get it dated? I'd rather buy an original...

Thank you in advance for your input...

LedFoot - we don't allow posting of parts wanted or forsale in the forums. We have a whole area of the site set up for them.

It bothers me that after I moved your post with the wanted ad in it to the one forum set up for ads you edited the title and came back here and reposted it again. That said I edited out the wanted ad and left your question, please don't repost the orig ad again. Thanks,

LeadFoot,

Welcome to the site!! Take some time and look at all that it has to offer.

I can't answer your specific questions as I haven't dealt with it in a while.

In my experience reproduction parts are never quite the same as original, even in a Holley/Holley situation.

I did the ebay thing and found a correctly dated 4053 about three years ago. Paid $432.00 for it and then had it restored. It turned out beautifully but cost big $$$. It all comes down to how much your into correct/original. Some enjoy that aspect of the hobby, some scratch their heads and wonder what those "numbers guys" are thinking....

DjD,
First of all, my original post stated that I was looking for a 4053 because that is related to the topic I posted. Secondly, I moved the post after you did because I thought that I accidently placed the posting in the wrong location and I was correcting it. I'm new to the site. Sorry for bothering you!

Maybe I hadn't had enough of my morning coffee but it really looked like you were trolling for a part when you reposted in this forum after I moved it to the classifieds. We get a lot of guys that act like they are new to the whole forum board thing but seem to know the in's and outs of posting very well.

I apologize if I took you wrong, you'll find because of the volume of traffic here we have to take a sales or wanted pitch as just that, even if it's mixed in with a long related post. This isn't to make anyones life rough, it's just having ads in the forums doesn't help when looking for an answer and half the topics you get from a search are someones wanted list or ads and replies to them...

Here is a great discussion on differences that began with the service dated carbs.

If you are referring to Cranes Corvettes, I picked up a Holley 4053 today dated 821. His carbs are remanufactured by Holley and appear to be top notch. Mine looks better than any of the current listings on Ebay! Cranes Corvettes gets a thumbs up from me!

Bilo, great link..

Chedderboy, you said "remanufactured," do you mean it is an original they cleaned up or what I think what you mean is that it is a NEW Holley that they dated for you?

Based on what I have learned so far, I can tell the difference between an original and a NEW "reproduction" by looking at the baseplate. I have not determined how to determine if the metering blocks or bowls are "reproductions." Is there a way?

Also, do the "reproductions" perform as well as the originals?

Thank you
