View Full Version : "SS" Hockey Stripe Stickers?
cowboybob Jan 16th, 06, 07:14 AM Hope someone can help me find something that meets my needs. I have a '69 LM1 car that is going through a complete restoration. The car is NOM and has some neat (rare) options. The car is Garnet red and was originally equipped with white houndstooth interior and a parchment vinyl top. The car has white rally stripes on it now, but the car was recently repainted and I don't think that the stripes are original. I'm repainting the car the orginal color and the interior will be black houndstooth.
I would like to make an SS clone out of the car and put black hockey stripes on it, but I'm kinda worried about keeping the originality of the car. For example, if I were to ever want to restore the car completely original the hockey stripes are obviously a problem and can't be easily removed without repainting the front fenders. I know that GM used a sticker for the doors, but are stickers available for the fenders as well? It seems that this would be my best option since I could always take the stickers off without ruining/damaging the paint job.
Anybody know if the fender stickers are available and where I can get a set?
Thanks

Leonard1 Jan 16th, 06, 07:43 AM I think I rember reading that stencils and stripes had these? Maybe check with them. I'm sure they can help.
KevinW Jan 16th, 06, 08:11 AM Bob, the Z stripe are not original (only came on Zs and pace car replicas). You could order hockey stripes D90 and bumble bee DX1 on any car, including LM1. So you can put either stripe on your car without worrying about originality. You should not put SS emblems on, be proud of your LM1 blue bowties! Also with a parchment vinyl top, any stripes would be white on a garnet red car.
65-66-69-CHEVYS Jan 16th, 06, 08:46 AM If you are building a SS clone, build it the way you want it. You have then thrown the original book out the door. Dont worry about it and just enjoy your car with the hockey stripes. Here is my SS clone with a GM SS hood and painted fender stripes and sticker door stripe. Build it your way and enjoy it, dont worry about down the road stuff. I have had this one 18 years and was just offered $15K for this clone. He caught me at a weak moment, but the guys here talked me out of it. Enjoy it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/OHbluebird/69front.jpg

69cama Jan 16th, 06, 10:12 AM I have removed the original stripes from a Garnet Red car with white interior and they were a lighter colored Red stripe. The 3 stripe colors available were White, Black, and Red. These kits are sold at Ricks, Year One, etc. If you use the stencils that come with these kits you can expect paint to bleed through the edges. I have seen some very nice paint jobs ruined with these stencils. You can use them as a guide and tape it off with 3M fine line tape. If you paint use the large end of the door stripe to match up the fender paint.

Boy...I learn something new every time I read the forums! Thanks Kevin.
And thanks to all of the other folks that replied as well. I think that I will go ahead and have the black hockey stripes painted since I may put a black vinyl top on the car someday (the parchment vinyl top was removed during the previous repaint, but the car looks pretty good without a vinyl "hat").
