Had our 68 SS for about a year and a half now. And, just really started to get into the numbers. And, while searching the engine code came up with L32. For a 283 V8 for export only. Can anyone tell me what my car is supposed to have for an engine and what to put behind it? The VIN is 124378L328674

You need to post the cowl tag info. It's found on the fire wall inside the engine compartment. That will be a start. Do you have any of the original paperwork such as the protecto plate or sales documents?

No, nothing of that sort. I'll have to get the Cowl tag info tomorrow. The car is in my shop. Anything else I should get to clear things up?

L32 is a 67 only engine. How did you come up with that code, is it on the current engine?

Kurt;
Maybe someone is trying to read the VIN sequence like a newer GM VIN where "L" is an engine code?
Of course in this case it means Los Angeles.

No, it's not on the current engine. The current combo is a 350/400. It's built for the strip

Here's what we've got on the cowl tag:
Body by Fisher
02A H182
ST 68-12437 LOS
TR 712 2770 BODY

VIN nimber is: 124378L328674

It wasn't an export vehicle originally. LA didn't build any, NOR did all of them.

VIN matches the tag.
The LOS body # is missing a digit and the paint code is missing.

02A - built first week of Feb
712 - standard black int

Is the tire sticker still inside the glove box door?
Is the rear axle original?

I'm not sure if the rear axle is original or not. I haven't gotten a chance to check. Where can I find what engine came with it?

Oh...the paint code is JJ I guess. Mind you, my brother is relaying the info to me, and he knows very little of cars. I haven't had a chance to really look at the tags and stuff myself. I will tomorrow though. And, I'll check the rear axle. Thanks for everyones help

Not sure we'll ever know but by answering my questions we'll at least exhaust the possibilities.
What's the axle code located on the passenger side axle tube? http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#RearAxleNumbers
And what's the tire pressure sticker, if still there?
