View Full Version : X11 question !! Regarding two piece brake line
69 350 SS Jan 17th, 06, 08:40 PM Hi all
If my X11 has the brake proportioning valve ( I think thats what it is ?) under the drivers side on the subframe should the car have disc brakes on the Front ?
thanks
Kurt
jimi302z28s Jan 17th, 06, 09:02 PM Hello, I have a 68 SS big block car that has the valve under drivers side on the subframe, that has front drum brakes, so I think they did that on both dis and drums but not for sure??? Do you have the power brake booster? Thanks Jimi
z10kl Jan 17th, 06, 09:25 PM Not neceserily. I have a manual drum brake car with a presure regulator on the subframe. 10 bolt rear. I also had a 327 69 with the disc brake option that did not have it.
Kurt S Jan 17th, 06, 09:32 PM I might describe valve usage as 'inconsistent'. Funky would work too. :)
69 L 89 RAG Jan 17th, 06, 09:35 PM Do ether of your cars have A/C ? I have noticed some A/C cars with no disc brakes have the valve. I think it has to do with the extra weight. Anybody else seen this?
69 350 SS Jan 18th, 06, 03:43 PM I can't quite understand this car I have it has duel fuel lines that proportioning valve thingy under the drivers side on the subframe and its an
X11 which has drums on the front ????? I was thinking maybe its an SS but who knows ??? It has the SS badging I know that means nothing at all LOL
Is there something else I can look for ?? the car has no motor or box so it would be very hard to work out ?? The guy I got it from said it used to be a drag car so who knows ??????? and for those about to ask what rear it has ? Its got a F..D 9" in it so again I'm screwed LOL
Unreal Jan 18th, 06, 08:17 PM Exhaust reinforcing plate on the driverside rear wheelwell, at about 1 O'clock. Dual exhaust is no guarantee of SS, but without it, you can rule it out.

Do you have a picture of this part ??
Cheers ?
BelAirBob Jan 18th, 06, 09:38 PM It looks like this, only welded to the driver's side outer frame rail.

Billy d. Jan 19th, 06, 02:28 PM my 69 z28 was a drag car for some time and it too had drum brakes installed.
i think maybe it was common practice used on old drag cars .drum brakes for less friction(binding) or maybe weight savings.
of course someone else might know more on this.

Yeah maybe something goin on ???
Any old skool drag racers chime in here please !!!!
Yellow69RSZ Jan 19th, 06, 06:05 PM I have a 69 rs 350 car, all original has valve under drivers side, factory drum brakes with 12 bolt rear, I'm not sure the rhyme or reason to it!
zdld17 Jan 19th, 06, 06:14 PM I think the brake thinq was a flip or toss up,,, disc brakes were lighter but they had some drag as some calipers did not release all way,,,Drum was heavier but you could run them very loose and use motor oil on bearing on either ones.
brandnewbad Jan 19th, 06, 06:24 PM You can pick up 2-3 mph in the 1/4 mile with drum ( less drag ) Disc has drag on the rotors to cause the loss of mph
69 350 SS Jan 19th, 06, 07:00 PM Very good info !! I'll have a look for the exhaust hanger !!
We'll see if Kurt S finds anything with the info I've given ??
69 350 SS Jan 19th, 06, 10:58 PM Also found something out about the interior of my car see this thread http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=72043
Kurt S Jan 20th, 06, 12:22 AM With that date and assuming the fuel lines are original, they point to the car being an SS350.
See http://www.camaros.org/options.shtml#CustomSpecialInterior about your interior.
Yellow69RSZ,
Is your car a LM1 or a L65 (4 or 2 bbl)?

Thanks Kurt !
Ill get under it and look further into it ie: Fuel lines exhaust bracket etc !!
If this was the case what kind of value would you put on it ??
It has no motor or box its an original 4 speed car other than the missing drivetrain its complete and would need quarters and a floor pan put in it !!
Any kind of guide would be great !!
Regards, Kurt H
KevinW Jan 20th, 06, 08:17 PM 4 speed car, look for the speedo hole just above the accel arm. If there and factory, its a muncie = SS. If not there, then saginaw = non SS.
