I had the same delema, so I sand blasted the parts I knew I could paint right away and Im storing them in containers in my basment untill I reassemble the car. I purchased a Harbor fraight sand blasting cabinet (Go to a Harbor fraight store for a better deal)

sand blasted, primed and painted the parts and got that out of my way untill later. I know this sounds strange but It got me aquainted with the car and also gave me an idea of how much work I had to do.

If you are just storing the parts, primer should be ok. I took over two years on my car between primer and paint. No problems. It was stored inside and I was block sanding and prepping it. When I got enough money for paint and shop costs, off to the shop it went. If you store stuff in the rain, it will rust.

If your going to blast the parts to bare white metal, I would apply some Etching primer as a base, then 2k prime to seal it. Now days a good DTM (direct to metal primer) is a wise choice, for keeping parts from rusting until you get to them. Remember if it has rust and you blast it, it only takes a few seconds for it to start to rust again, so get it in a primer fairly quick.
