Hi guys,
Just picked up a 1969 Camaro pace car that needs a few minor things. I'm looking to put the decals on the doors. Is there a difference between the aftermarket companies that offer them or are they all the same as far as correctness? Also need a cowl gasket, air cleaner decals, valve cover decals and trim ring/boot around the shifter (4-speed), same questions here.

I'm also wondering about the pro's and con's of changing/adding factory options to the car. It's a complete numbers matching 396/325 car, but doesn't have any additional paper work that I'm aware of. I know where the car was purchased new and by who (I'm the second owner), but the original owners have lost the protecto-plate. I'm looking to add a correct tilt column/rosewood wheel and the Euro-style front bumper. Thought's/comments??

Thanks,
Gary

I'd think most aftermarket decal are pretty much the same. I'd go with a well known company like http://www.phoenixgraphix.com/ or http://www.stencilsandstripes.com/.

If you have a Norwood built car, look on top of your gas tank for a build sheet. Yes, you'll have to drop the tank. Personally I would not change anything on a pace car (especially if you find a build sheet) but the items you mentioned probably wouldn't do any harm to value.

I think you meant LA/Van Nuys, as very few Norwood cars have been found with build sheets...chassis broadcast copies have been found on '69 LA/VN cars on top of the gas tank.

There is a better set of decals available but I cant remember who it is that offers them. You might check in at www.camaropacecars.com I think someone made up a batch that were closer to original.

My father and I have a 69 pace car and we bought it with the decals on the door and decided to take them off. Dont kill the side of the car inless its going to be in a show room or parade. Its like "LOOK AT ME A GOT A PACE CAR!" It looks real slick with the clean door I think.

Go back to the original owners and get them to search for old photos, etc. At the very least, get thm to write you a letter certifying that they are the original owners, and that the car was a factory 396. That extra documentation may come in handy some day.
