View Full Version : SS hoods 67-69 enio45 Jan 18th, 06, 02:00 PM Does all 67-69 SS hoods have the same sheetmetal cutouts in the louver area for the drains and studs etc ? Gary Dorion Jan 18th, 06, 08:39 PM yes. green z Jan 19th, 06, 05:21 AM Hello Ed How have you been? On the hoods a 67 is different as it doesn't have any drain holes for the louvers enio45 Jan 19th, 06, 12:05 PM Kerry is that you?? Doing well . .yes this is what i was wondering. . .as im looking for a mint SS hood that will work with the 68-69 louvers. I had a 67 offered but i suspected this would not work. Thanks for the tip and do you have a pic of the 67 what it looks like under the louver? green z Jan 19th, 06, 12:22 PM Yes Ed its me, I ll try to send you a pic. green z Jan 19th, 06, 12:34 PM Ed email me and I'll send over the pics. I thing my pics are too big to send through this sight enio45 Jan 19th, 06, 12:52 PM OK will do . . .also, how do you tell the repo hood from the original if you done have the ability to weight them?? enio45 Jan 19th, 06, 12:55 PM sent u a PM Gary Dorion Jan 19th, 06, 07:48 PM The catalogs list the ss hoods for 67-69 the same. enio45 Jan 22nd, 06, 06:11 AM Ok for the forum...67 SS hoods DONOT have the drain holes as the 68 and 69 hoods do - -this is true for the original GM hoods. Repo use all the same hood for the 3 years. Now the next question - how do you tell a repo SS hood from a GM SS hood. Visual differences? Need some advise asap please.... BelAirBob Jan 22nd, 06, 06:36 AM Get out your micrometer. GM is 57 thousandsths, Repro is 53.5. I know it may sound a little extreme, but the repros do a great job of copying the original GM hoods these days. The gauge of the metal does not lie, however. RickD Jan 22nd, 06, 06:40 AM Bob, how old is the tooling for the repro 69 vert quarters? I have a set of NOS I've been keeping for my car but am wondering about using repro instead. I was talking to Jim Barber last summer who showed me some metal analysis he had done when putting in place his vert shell program. enio45 Jan 22nd, 06, 06:52 AM Any other visable differences, bends, corners etc...?? BelAirBob Jan 22nd, 06, 10:06 AM Bob, how old is the tooling for the repro 69 vert quarters? I have a set of NOS I've been keeping for my car but am wondering about using repro instead. Rick, According to my jobber, tooling for the repros is less than a couple of years old. The tooling on the NOS parts was run up until the 80's, so it was still ok, albeit a bit less crisp than in 69'. I sell the repros, but if you already have the NOS by all means use them. On the other hand, selling them nowadays could also repesent a major profit opportunity, since they routinely sell for in excess of $1000 per side! By the way, you need to sell me your washer pump and prop valve! I'm the same Bob! :):):) z10kl Jan 22nd, 06, 07:46 PM I have noticed a difference on the front center where the skin overlaps the inner frame. I have two gm and a Goodmark repo leaning against a wall and it is easy to see the difference. The Goodmark will not fit the curve of the cowl panel. They said bend it but you can't bend it in the right place. enio45 Jan 23rd, 06, 03:29 AM is it possible that u send me a pic or two to show the difference?? id really appreciate that. I sent you pics and an email :) tonyvol Jan 24th, 06, 06:25 PM I bought a Goodmark SS hood for a 67 camaro and compared it against an original SS hood. I believe that the back corners of the original hood was squared off more than the Goodmark. If you don't have an original SS hood to compare off of, take a GM flat hood and compare it to a Goodmark SS hood you will see the difference. Also, the front center part of the Goodmark hood where it comes to a point, the metal wasn't overlapped as neatly as the original. |
