Whatever you call it, as long as you dont try to pass it off as the real thing, go for it.
I like clone, but tribute has a ring to it.
(This coming from an X44 Plain Jane Guy; how can I not put an SB in it and haul butt)

Technically, not just from a politically correct standpoint, recreation is a more accurate term than clone anyway.
In my opinion.

Just GREAT! I suppose now at my next cook out when one of my friends looks disappointed at me and asks "Hey that's not a Weber grill, thats a Charbroil CLONED to pass it off as a Weber!". I will be expected to hang my head and say "actually it is a recreation, and not a very good one at that, you've got me".

Isn't "recreation" kind of what Dr. Frankenstein was doing? I'm not sure I'm real comfortable with that term. But then again it is a process that crime scene investigators go through. So in a way it is fitting to call a clone a recreation, since most of them are a crime in how little they represent the original product.

SCOTTSDALE- Rick Dicker, 58, government agent, was taken into custody for indecent exposure at the Barrett Jackson auction campus. Dicker was observed leaning against the rear of a classic 1969 Camaro "[I was] checking to see if the restored vehicle included the modern day gas tank filler tab" stated Dicker. Moments before the vehicle was approached by the owner, Indy Muncie, Dicker became lodged in the fuel tank filler tube.

Classic vehicle owner Muncie stated that his vehicle's auction potential was now greatly impacted, "the ability for the vehicle to be auctioned as a "unmolested" 1969 Camaro". Muncie did not state if he would persue legal action against Dicker, but stated he would be taking matters up with his attorney.

Auction results for Muncie's 1969 Camaro fell far below his anticipated selling price, Muncie stating that "even the auction chicks wouldn't stand near the vehicle". Barrett Jackson failed to comment on the situation.
