I was wondering how to prep the door jams prior to rehanging my doors. I currently have the jams sanded to bare metal. Should I prime the area then hang the door? I can't remember if there was paint behind the hinge. Any recomendations would help. Thanks

I just recently removed my doors and there is factory paint beneath the hinges.
I plan on stripping the jambs, epoxy priming, 2k priming and then shooting bc/cc. I'll let the area sit for a while so that the clear gets hard. Afterwards, I'll hang the doors and shoot the whole car and use aperature tape along the door edges to keep overspray out of the jambs.

There should not be any paint under the hinges as the body was painted at the factory with the doors [and trunk lid] mounted.

That is correct, the hinges, doors, and trunk lid and hinges were mounted to the car when it was painted. In fact, I don't remember with my Camaro (that was twenty years ago!) but with "A" bodies of some years the door and trunk latches and strikers were installed and painted!

Thanks, I don't have a color picked yet, so should I just use a etching primer on the jamb and install the door.

I get it that some guys want to get it as "right" as possible, but why not paint under the hinges? Perhaps when there were Camaros on every corner for sale and they were a dime a dozen, don't paint the body in that area. I would think from a preservation perspective, a coat of paint on that area would do nothing more than ensure that no rust over forms in that area. Would it even be possible for a judge (if that is what we are talking about) to tell one way or the other? I'm painting under my hinges, even if it is "techically" incorrect.

Pete 67, I used POR-15 for an undercoat. Just make sure it is dry before you rehang the doors!!! You may never get them off again!!!
