This is probably a question for martinsr, but you guys might know too. I have a quart of Zolatone spatter paint that I bought to repaint my trunk. Do I need a specific kind of spray gun to shoot it? I have a HV gun with a 1.3mm nozzle and I'm thinking that's too small an orifice. Also, should I remove the filter at the bottom of the paint cup to let the particles through?

Hi denis, I have not sprayed the zolatone myself. But i would say use a non hvlp gun with a larger tip than what you have and remove the screen on the paint draw tube. Set up a test panel and see what you have. I think this is what larry christianson uses, maybe he could offer some advice also. Roger

Actually, the paint is from Larry. There are some notes he provided suggesting a #30 gun tip or a body shutz gun. The shutz (sp?) gun sounds like a good idea but not sure how'd I would go about using it with a quart of paint -- doesn't the shutz container screw onto the gun?

I'm no painter, but I bought a quart of Larry's paint. My painter had trouble with it, and ended up using a sand blast gun, of all things! I'm not advocating that, but the results were good.

Larry's paint has more grey in it and a lot less spatter than my original spatter paint.

The body schultz gun is a screw on, and you would have to find a container. Also the schultz gun goes through lots of volume in a short time. Maybe a pressure pot paint set up with a large tip would work. Roger

One trick to make the splatter paint cover more even and without blotches,is to spray a light coat of 3M rubberised undercoating on the areas to be splatterpainted.Black paint should work the same. The darker color base seems to work with the splatterpaint better than light colors.

I sold Zolatone about 10 years ago and if I remember the only way to spray it correctly is with a pressure pot set up. You need to spray it first at a lower pressure to get it to splatter and then at a higher full atomization coat to cover and get the effect.
