I would like to add the early 1968 (single-front) stripe to my '68. Is there a decal-type kit (3M stripe) or must it be done with paint. If paint only, is there a stencil or specification available so that I can tape it up properly before painting?

There is no decal for the front stripe...The factory did use decals from the fender arch back on that stripe.

Two good options: Stencils & Stripes offers a paint stencil kit or you can get use the dimensions in the Factory Assembly Instruction Manual. The manual is worth its' weight in gold.

As far as I can understand, we are talking about two different stripes here. One single-front, as mentioned by 68Camarostd327, that we call Bumble Bee and the other composed of front & fenders/doors that we call late SS stripe or Big Block, mentioned by Cavemate. The last is the one I installed on my Camaro. The SS fnt & Fndr comes as a total stencil or a combination stencil/stripe as it came in Camaros from the factory. The Bumble Bee, as I know, only comes in stencil, unles there is a stripe kit made lately. Don't be afraid about using the stencil, It's not that hard to put in place, just make sure the cars paint has at least 2 weeks of drying time before instaling it. That if your car is recently painted.

Yes, It is the "bumblebee" stripe that I am looking to add. The original paint is in pretty good condition, but not so good that adding the stripe will affect the overall quality. I would like to do a major repaint in the future, but for now, the stripe, I think, would look nice. The decal seems like a good option (if available) as my painting skill (and equipment - not to mention budget) is limited to spray paint.
