View Full Version : Converting to HEI need plug wire advice.
ck 2 Jan 22nd, 06, 12:29 PM I have sent my points dist to Dave Ray for conversion to HEI. I need to get a set of plug wires and want the original black wire. They don't have to be technically correct, I just want the dark wires not red, yellow, etc.
What's a good wire that performs, looks, and fits good? Also an idea on price.
Thanks.
DjD Jan 22nd, 06, 01:16 PM I'm using black pertronix flame thrower 8mm wires with my David Ray dist. Get the "make your own" set with the sparkplug boots (90deg, straight, etc) you want. I didn't want the 90deg ends on the cap though so I found a set of straight boots and terminals from moroso I believe. It looks stock if you want it to and allows a custom but retro look depending on how your form the wires... You can kinda see in this pic... On price I think about $40 and the moroso straight cap boots and terminals was about $10.

I bought 7mm Magnecor wires; went with Magnecors because I wanted small diameter to fit stock looms. The Magnecors are supposed to be very good, and they were only $60 or so from Apex Performance.

ck 2 Jan 23rd, 06, 04:40 PM Eric, do you have to cut the magnecor wires to fit?
What type ends do they have on them, at the plug and cap, straight or 90? Will they plug right in to a stock points type cap?
Thanks.
ck 2 Feb 14th, 06, 12:20 PM Eric. I sent you a PM.
Can any of you guys give part #'s for the wire sets you bought?
ck 2 Feb 14th, 06, 01:59 PM I called Taylor today and they recommended part # 74001.
They are their 8mm spiro-pro wires. They are already cut to length just install. Straight male ends at dist to fit female socket in points type cap. And 90 degree ends at the spark plug.
Has anyone used these, or know anything about them?
82Vettrin Feb 14th, 06, 05:29 PM I'm running the Taylor # 76032 8mm spiro-pro 135 degree boot kit.. (the 135 degree boot-end gives the wire an up-ward and out direction away from my big-tube headers) Summit # TAY-76032 $55.39
am pleased with the wires and ends, but after seeing different routing combos at various show this winter, I wish I'd opted for the cut 'em yourself lengths where I could run them more neatly in channels or looms down behind the heads and along the rocker covers; instead of over the rocker covers and all~over the place like they are now... not much for eye candy.
