As I was underneath my dash looking at the back of my gas gage I noticed there are NO wires plugged into the back of it. (which is probably why it reads E all the time) This is a standard gas gage.

My question is I only found one wire that appeared to have come off the back.....I cannot seem to locate any other wires that has the same type of plug as the one i found. can anyone tell me by chance what color(s) of wires they have plugged into the back of thier gas gage.

I hope I can get this fixed, it sucks not having a working gas gage. any thoughts, help, ideas will be greatly appreciated.

on a 68 (and 67) there is a printed circuit board that attaches to the back of the dash carrier to carry all the connections from the one large connectors. The wire for the guage is tan.
If the guage always reads empty that means the tan wire is grounded out somewhere. In the trunk, behind the filler tube, there is a small connector with 2 wires plugging in separately. 1 goes to the license plate light, the other, the tan one, goes to the sending unit in the tank. Unplug the tan one and switch on the key. If the guage stays at empty, the problem is in front, if it goes ways past full, the problem is in the tank.

So there are no individual wires that connect to the 2 threaded posts?

Thank you for your help

Correct - nothing connected to the threaded posts except the mylar PC board. Check out this image from another thread - http://www.camaros.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=249&d=1136695877
