My car is about 6 hours north of where I live getting all of the paint and body work done. The body/paint guy is very good and is doing the car for a very reasonable price. The engine compartment area needs to be cleaned up and repainted and I would like to do the firewall and inner fenders body color. I plan on going up there once more before the car is painted to remove the heater box, master cylinder, etc. from the firewall to have it painted at the same time as the rest of the car. My concern is reassembling the firewall components after the paint is done. Can the heater box be re-installed with the passender side fenders on the car or will I have to remove them? How difficult is it to reinstall fenders after the car has been painted without damaging the paint? I could have him paint the inner fenders and leave the firewall but I'm thinking that a black firewall with cortez silver inner fenders might look odd.
Thanks for your advice

Im not sure what you are after,is it a must to keep the heater,is your car going to be a stocker or a modified,If stock I would paint it all underhood black, also I would degrease, then reinstall heater heater box with 3-m strip caulk with a new heater core installed and a new blower motor then mask off and paint. If you are going modified,I would go heater delete and smooth out firewall and then paint it all cortez silver,Detroit Speed and Enginnering makes a nice block-off plate if you wish to smooth firewall, they also sell a real nice aftermarket air conditioning setup and a real nice indash control for this setup, check out their website. You can reinstall fenders after car is painted but you have to tape all edges to protect them and be very carefull,I prefered on my 69 to paint all the inside of the sheetmetal then install and final adjust and fit everthing then I used the new sticky foam for the masking and back taped everthing,I didnt want to take a chance scratching up anything, there are a lot of people that prefer to paint their parts 1 piece at a time so they don't end up with any paint lines, mine came out real nice and where I masked,it is not noticable, heater box and booster should go on before inner fenders, just easer to get to the bolts! Good luck!

MR454SS, I was planning on adding a vintage air setup but I was not aware that everything fit underneath the dash. I appreciate your reply
