: Nuts & Bolts Etc

Hi Guys,

I've started assembling my 68 camaro.

To give you a quick run down, the car was dismantelled in 1984 ....TOTALLY. I purchased an almost complete car, but in bits.

I have new subframe bushes and hardware so that has allowed me to connect the body to the subframe.

I've got my control arms with new bushes and ball joints, New Calipers, Bearings bushes including ALL front end hardware My problem is I don't which nuts and bolts to use to assemble it all. And I'm fairly certain I don't have a lot of the nuts & bolts required

I've purchased the Camaro Complete Body Fastener Kit from Classic industries but that doesn't help me with the nuts, bolts etc for the fron end. Any help would be great.

Hey MJ,

The body fastener kit is mostly exterior hardware, body panels, trim, etc. What youre looking for is the chassis master kit. It includes pretty much everything that goes on the suspension parts. Ive ordered it through Rick's before, but now I just order direct from www.amkproducts.com (http://www.amkproducts.com) .

dave

ps: The kit does not include the rear shackle carriage bolts, just the nuts. Found that out at the last minute

THANKS!!!! I'll organise my order ASAP.

Does the kit use the correct heads etc for Authenticity? I'd like it to be as close to original as possible as i'm going for a complete resto

Thanks again for your help.

Hey Jonesy (we share the same last name),

I thought I'd take your lead and purchase from SS396.com but I can't find the kit. Do you have a part number for the kit on their web site?

For the most part, the kit is pretty close to correct. There are several pieces that arent exact. But none of the hw included will look too far off from original or be mistaken with hardware store fasteners. You would have to closely compare with originals to know theyre different.

Dave may be right with his info above. I was thinking you needed the front end sheetmetal bolt kit or the like. I reread the post and it looks like you need bolts and hardware for the suspension, right?

I have only seen correct ones on ebay.

Dave, you could answer this one better than me as I reused my originals.

Hi Jonesy,

Yes that's correct. I've ordered the 'Complete body fasterner Kit" from Classic industries. But my problem is assembling the front brake suspension & steering etc.

Look through the site I gave above, click on "kits" on the left hand side, then follow the links for your car under "master" kits, chassis. I would think that most vendors offer it also, but that'll at least show you what it is and all that comes with the kit.

Hi Dav,

I've ordered the Chassis & Engine kits from AMK Products. (looks like it's bread and water for the family this month. Cost over $500 for nuts and bolts!).

Thanks for all your help guys.

Its definately not cheap stuff, but if you count your time that it takes to restore the originals, its not really that bad of a deal.

Very true Dave,

Not just the time. The fact that many of the fasteners are Stainless steel and match or exceed original specs will give me piece of mind.

Thanks again for your help

Smart mouthed ol' pdq67 just has ta why worry about it??

It ain't gonna be original anyway unless you reuse the old rusty crap that came off her!! AND I try to every chance I get so those gold Grade-8 hardware nuts, washers and bolts look pretty darn good..

He, He!!
