View Full Version : What would you pay 89 Iroc
HaulnSS Jan 27th, 06, 03:57 PM What do you think is a good price for an 89 Iroc Camaro.
Newer Black Paint, no scratches, (factory like finish) correct decals, HardTop, 350, Leather, power seats, newer tires, 110,000 miles. Motor rebuilt 10-20,000 miles ago. Car was dyno'd after rebuild 217.6 Rear wheel horsepower.
The only thing I don't like about it, the rear window/spoiler aren't alligned perfectly. The owner tried to convince me that was typical for Iroc's. I have never noticed it before. Any input on this would be appreciated!

novaderrik Jan 27th, 06, 04:25 PM $2500- you know the car has been beat- it IS and IROC, or at least the stickers say so- and that "fresh" rebuilt engine might not have ever been "rebuilt".
importkiller69ss Jan 27th, 06, 04:25 PM i knew a friend of mine that sold his a while back his was also an 89 iroc..he had all kind of stuff on that car...built 350 headers flows leather, gears new red paint c5 rims nitto tires he was dnyod at 380 rwhp and he started off asking 6000 and after 5 months he had to settle for 4000 and only got like 5 calls and that car was sweet looking...i guess the arent bringing much money but are nice looking cars
HaulnSS Jan 27th, 06, 04:26 PM $2500- you know the car has been beat- it IS and IROC, or at least the stickers say so- and that "fresh" rebuilt engine might not have ever been "rebuilt".
I understand what you are saying... I did forget to mention that they have the receipts from the rebuild.
HaulnSS Jan 27th, 06, 04:29 PM I love the car, but they are asking $8,000.00 firm. Don't know that I can force myself to pay that. Although I have seen a lot of them sell for $5,000 on Ebay. I am trying to convince myself that if I paid 5,000 for one on Ebay and then rebuilt the motor or repainted it, I would have close to the asking price in it. I am looking for something to drive around for fun.
CFunK Jan 27th, 06, 05:20 PM Eight THOUSAND dollars for 17 year old 3rd Gen? I paid $3000 for my first '68 Camaro back in '85.
I love the IROC's as much as the next guy and still wish I had my '86, but IMHO I would pass on the deal.
If it was an original, mint, unmolested car it MIGHT be a different story for that kind of money.
I would also run a Carfax on the VIN, run the VIN and RPO codes in the console through the decoder at www.thirdgen.org (http://www.thirdgen.org)
67CAMAROSS Jan 27th, 06, 05:27 PM I Bought A 88 For $2500.
kz1000ltd Jan 27th, 06, 06:22 PM They must be on drugs, for 8K, it better have 5K worth of stereo equipment installed in it!!!!!!!!!!!
HaulnSS Jan 27th, 06, 06:32 PM Well, I am seeing a trend here. Unfortunately that has been my gut feeling too. Just thought I could talk myself into it.
Levi Jan 27th, 06, 06:40 PM I wouldn't pay 8 grand(even if I had it). I see plenty of IROC-Z's around here for as little as $1000 bucks. But I haven't seen the one you are talking about.Don't be discouraged, Chevy made tons of 'em. Check out www.thirdgen.org and you will see some trends on prices.
Camaro Dave Jan 28th, 06, 12:21 PM Like Levi said......There are plenty of IROCs still out there. I tried to sell mine a few years back for $5000.00 with no takers and the car is real Cherry looking. You can find a better deal out there, just keep your eyes open.
HaulnSS Jan 28th, 06, 07:50 PM Yeah, I think you guys have talked me out of this one....
Lt1burn Jan 28th, 06, 08:02 PM My brother owns a 87 Iroz Z 25th Ann. Its got 92k and I think every possible option. L98 350, Tops, Special Sound System, Overhead etc.. He paid $2500 for it at a Dealers Only auction, but he has been offered $6000 for it. It depends alot on if it has seen winter, and the condition of the drivetrain when they get close to 100k ( or over ). If the dash wiggles some, its been harped on. Those cars are either real tight and well kept, or they arent. I havent seen much in between.
Lt1burn Jan 28th, 06, 08:06 PM Yeah but youre talkin about An IrocZ, which is now getting close to a collecters car. When you modify a car like that, the value goes down rapidly. I would rather pay 5K for an all original Iroz with 100k, then a 80K Iroc that has been modified moderatly or heavily.

Everett#2390 Oct 12th, 06, 04:37 AM Good choice, Hauln. I sold mine 3 yrs ago, 85 Z/28, 98K, Corvette 350 w/305TPI and new Dunlop's for $3K. Wished I hadn't, but needed to move, wife was pushin' really hard......
Troy Adam Oct 12th, 06, 07:12 AM I guess it depends on the area you live in. I have been looking around to see whats out there and the 3rd gen prices in my area are running from $4,000 to as much as $19,000 depending on the mileage and options.
I bought my 92 seven years ago and paid $7000 for it. Back then I thought it was expensive but I couldn't find anything in better shape. I was looking for a keeper so I bought it. I have enjoyed owning this car and have only had to replace the radiator and starter in it since I bought it. I put a lot of miles on it over the past seven years and have even had to drive it a few times in the winter. It was probably the best investment I could have made back then.
I guess you need to look at how long you would keep it and if you think you'll get your moneys worth out of it.
South Side Goons & Hitmen Oct 12th, 06, 08:50 AM In clean condition with matching numbers drive train and a 5.7L (350) not the boat anchor 5.0 (305) I have seen them go for $7,200 to $12,000 depending on mileage. That ssumes mileage is between 60k & 120k. I even saw a 1989 IROC-Z for sale at an indoor car show in early spring that was clean with 110k miles get reduced from $6,900 to $4,900....The guy was desparate to sell. The '89 Rocs with only 10k-15k miles may go for $17 grand or $18g....It depends.
I like these cars (1987-1990 IROC-Z). I had an '88 which I bought in 1994 for like $6,800 I think. I'm getting old....Anyway, it was all original including the tires. It had 45k or 48k on the odometer I think...... It was a 5.7L black. Nice ride. I sold it shortly after I bought it. I was bummed after selling my first 1969 camaro before I bought that car. I then sold my 1984 Z28 H.O. loaded to the gills right after I sold the Roc. I swore off Camaro's and all high performance cars for 12 years. That was until a few months ago. Now I'm back.
Bottom Line: Be patient, scour the internet, look through used car mags at your local convenience store, look around and do not buy the first car you see unless the deal is smokin'
Good Luck!!
P.S. 1989 & 1990 were the best years for IROC's. A 1990 is very hard to find since they did not make too many of them. It was also the last year for IROC's. 1989 is more common then 1990 and therefore slightly lower in price. If you can find a 1LE buy it!!
rpresas Nov 19th, 07, 02:06 PM I bought my 1989 TPI 350 Auto for $1500.00 138K mi., L98,ect. the only problem was a fuel pump. Keep it original!!!!!! please.
andy vincent Nov 30th, 07, 08:23 PM i paid 3k for mine. slew of unforseen problems
wiskeesour Nov 30th, 07, 08:27 PM 1990 IROC
paid 3K and NEVER had a problem not one. been great.
robsryd Dec 2nd, 07, 06:47 AM hey man, if they want that kind of money for a car that suposedly has a rebuilt motor, they should have all receipts AND pictures proving that the work had been done. That simple. And, for that kind of money it better be spectacular with about 450 horse with a dyno break and pull receipt.
I rebuilt my 87 Z and have all receipts and pics. The suspension is all new with a fourth gen 12" disc rear. The interior and paint need help but is rust free, and I would have to be out of my mind to try to get 8 grand for it, even if it had new paint. And yes, it was ran hard and is still rattle free.
andy vincent Dec 14th, 07, 02:09 PM my 87 was in the condition you described that one in..not an iroc but a v8..paid 3000
BAR396 Feb 9th, 08, 08:55 PM I bought a 1990 IROC w/69k miles Feb.07 for $5900. Original adult owned, lady driven. IROC blue, L98, grey leather. Great condition. Hood struts, hatch struts, alternator, rear hatch motor/gear is all I've had to do. I thought I paid a little high. But rare to find one in that condition here in Idaho. The 90 350 IROC's are rare though, just over 2400 built. Good luck. Keep searching.

Just realized this is an older post. Did you ever find a third gen to buy?
mjrad Feb 10th, 08, 07:51 AM I would pay 10 grand for this car
my reason is i payed 4500 for 89 iroc ,350 5.7 liter t-tops,
car is mint ,was a fast ride for only the first day i had it,
car was first owner ,246000 miles ,but car is mint mint mint
no dyno , have no idea how much power it had the first day i owned it,
i put another 2500 in to it ,
and i still have problems with,
i figure by time its perfect its going to be a least 10 grand into it or more
