What would it take to get a 1978 Camaro 10 bolt rear end to fit into a first gen. I understand the length is about 1" wider. Is that all? That doesn't seem like too big a problem as I haven't ordered new wheels yet. Are the leaf spring perches in the right spot? Thanks

The one inch wider is not much of a problem, like you said, that can ne solved with backspace. The real problem is the spring perch width is wrong too, and the only way to solve that is to cut them off and weld em back on.
