View Full Version : Best wax/polishing/buffing compound? maxharvard Feb 11th, 05, 08:10 AM The best stuff i've used it Zymol and 3M's polishing compound... what do you guys think? i dont have any scratches its a new paint job. corbetts_auto Feb 11th, 05, 08:51 AM Well, this is gonna sound dumb, but I can not tell much of a difference between any of the quality brands. I do like the smell of zymol makes me think I'm at the beach. LOL RamAirDave Feb 11th, 05, 03:45 PM The 3M system is the best for buffing. Dont really know whats the best wax out there. I use the meguiar's gold class wax, but Zymol's pretty good too. If its a new paint job, wait a while before waxing. Usually 90 days after it was painted. dave dschribs Feb 11th, 05, 04:38 PM RamAir's right on the ninety day wait - no matter what you're going to use. Wax, polish and compound are three seperate things actually. Polish and compound prepare the surface for wax. Wax basically protects the paint from the elements and enhances the shine that you've been able to obtain with polishes and compounds. One of the best new waxes out there is Meguiar's NXT. It's a synthetic blend - not a carnuba like most waxes. It also has the ability to hide minor surface imprefections and create brilliant gloss and depth. Meguiars #26 paste wax is also good. High duribility and gives a nice deep, rich look to the paint - will almost darken the paint to a certain extent. The best carnuba out there is without a doubt Pinnacle Souvern paste wax. Goes for about $60 but from what I understand is well worth it. Little durability though so it's mostly for show cars. Actually, more important that what wax you use, is what type of towels you use. Buy yourself some good quality microfiber towels for the job. Poor quality towels are probably the biggest cause of scratches and swirl marks other than poor washing technique. Rub your towels on a CD - the rule is if it scratches the CD - it will more than likely scratch your paint. I'm on a detailing site quite a bit that you might want to check out or even join... Autopia.com (http://autopia.org/) Simply an incredible site for anyone that is fanatical about keeping thier car looking its best; be it show car or daily driver.
