Ed 68Conv400HO Jan 31st, 06, 12:26 PM But the springs might be different? The springs being passed off by the vendors for 1st Gen Firebirds won't properly support the hoods. However, I've heard that they are correct for Camaro. Can anyone confirm? clwilcox33 Jan 31st, 06, 12:30 PM Yes, the hinges are the same, but the springs were different depending on the type of hood. Plain, SS, etc. The SS hoods had heavier duty springs. bertfam Jan 31st, 06, 01:01 PM HERE'S THE LINK (http://www.camaros.org/underhood.shtml) to more info on the hood hinge springs. Ed clwilcox33 Jan 31st, 06, 01:08 PM I forgot that article was there, thanks Ed!!! 68Conv400HO Jan 31st, 06, 01:51 PM Thanks, for the explanations. The Pontiac parts book shows the '67 and '68 Firebirds use the 3848272, which is what that article indicates for the SS hoods. Some vendors claim the 3848272 number offered for the Birds but they are not still not strong enough to hold the hoods fully open and several of us are looking for a better spring. Maybe something is wrong with the currently offered 3848272 compared to the factory originals? Thanks again for the responses. Sorry for the use of the hinge subject to ask. |
