Hey guys I bought a power steering kit off e-bay with pump, gearbox, hoses, rag joint, brackets and pulley. The problem is that when I try to mount the pump first the return line that comes out the back of the pump hits the head. second the pulley looks like it needs to come forward a half inch to line up properly. Can some one post some clear pictures of the mounting so that I can see. It is a 69 SS 383 stroker with headers. Oh yes and the back bracket has no where to mount to. From what I can see in the ebay photos and what you describe, it looks like you have a combination of issues. Do you have the 69 up long water pump?

The cradle bracket generally looks like the correct one for a 69 SB, but it's kind of hard to tell. The rear bracket looks entirely wrong.

I also can't really see where the return line and pressure port are on the back of your pump, but they look wrong too. The correct pump has the return nipple exiting the rear at about the 5 o'clock position (seen from the front).

Go to Rick's ( http://www.rickscamaros.com/cgi-local/SoftCart.exe/online-store/scstore/catalog_steering.htm?L+scstore+wncg4184ff42aa42+11 38933108 ) and look at the photos of the correct brackets and pump, and compare to what you have.

The mounting brackets shown there are the same as the ones I pulled off a big block with my hydraboost setup. Do the two holes in the back of the pivoting mount line up with the two homes next to the timing cover, or is one about 1/2" too short? If this is the case, I drilled my mount to accomodate my small block and shimmed it forward 1/4". I ran a heim/turnbuckle link from the waterpump back to the top of the bracket for adjustability and its working pretty good now.

I do have a long water pump. The cradle bracket seems to fit fine to the P/S pump and water pump. I may have to try to bend the return tube a little, but if I shim the pump out an 1/8 to 1/4 inch I may not need to modify the return tube. Thanks for the info on the wrong rear bracket. At least I know It is not something that I'm doing. I thought it may be because it did not have exhaust manifolds and had headers instead.
