Hi all-

School has been keeping me very busy so I haven't posted in a while (my 69 has been stuck in the garage). :( We are thinking about bringing another Camaro into the family and I wanted to post and get some advice. My Dad found a 1982 Camaro Z/28 Pace Car. He called this morning and left me a message about it. I haven't seen it so I am just going by what I was told.

27,000 Original Miles
No rust, straight body
Interior like new
Fully loaded

The owner says the Blue Book value is a little over $13,000 and that he will sell it for $12,000. I don't know much about anything other than first gen cars. Is this a good price? Anything I should tell my Dad to be on the look out for? Did all of the Z/28 pace cars come with the 5.0 liter Crossfire injected engine or is there a certain engine/RPO code I should be on the look out for?

The 305 was the biggest CI and the crossfire had the most HP @ 165.

I feel 12K is high. I track all the Camaro pace cars on eBay and only 6 times in the past 3 years hhas one passed the 12k mark.

Is it a 4 wheel disc break car?

:D Laughed so hard I almost cried! Thanks, I needed that. After reading in a few of my books about the problems with the fuel injection and the lack of power, I think I have convinced him to pass on this car. I have been trying to push him in the direction of restoring the 71 he has had in pieces in the garage since before I was born. He had the body work finished and took out the interior only to let it all sit for the last 25 years. That is a crime if you ask me. He could fix his up for a lot less than he would spend on this underpowered pace car.

They can look really nice if done right !!

There's a guy here in NJ and here on the board once in a while that has a 1982 Pace Car. I think it's a 305 4bbl with 4 speed and around 65K miles. He was looking to get around $5500 I thought. Car was in good shape too. Maybe you can use that number to estimate what other cars might be worth. I would never pay over $10K for one of those cars regardless of mileage or condition.

For what it's worth, the eighth VIN character would have told you whether it was the rip snorting 165HP LU5 crossfire (7 in the VIN) or the still powerful 145HP LG4 (H in the VIN). 82 Pace Car could have either. Actual Pace Cars had an aluminum 350 to keep them from being out accelerated by the track sweepers.

They seem to be hard to sell for any kind of money, for sure. The 71 would be a better return on investment for sure. I would imagine that $12K sunk in the 71 would have it pretty strong.

Speaking of that powerful 145 horsies, my first Camaro was a 75 with a 350 2 barrel. That was rated at 145 horsies too. It was a shame how they choked those engines out. I put headers, dual exhaust, got rid of the converter and other emissions, and put a 4 barrel on it. Probably really kicked it up say, a whopping 165 or so. But at that age you think it is something bad a**. I loved the night I put the headers on and rode around with open headers it was all noise and still no go. Before all of that "work" I used to turn over the air cleaner to hear that 2 barrel moan when you kicked it down. Man those were the days.

Jeff, I think I looked at that car at Jackson in May. I passed because it is a dog and that one was too nice to take apart.

IMO that is the best looking 3rd gen. Nice colors, red striped wheels, special interior parts. But I still wouldn't pay more than 6k for a perfect one (then again, I wouldnt have paid more than 6k for a 3rd gen 1LE car, and we see how that worked at b-j this year). Did the 82 have the fiberglass hood????

CFI runs fine if you are not an idiot and don't expect to jump to 400 hp w/o a whole lot of thought. I'd take it over an electronic Q-jet any day.

I think the 5.0 HO was the only one to have a fiberglass hood. I bought one in 83 and it had a fiberglass hood. My friend had an 82 crossfire with a steel hood. His also had factory exhaust manifolds that were not cast, but individual tube, header like, but not equal length. Also his hood had vents that opened when you stood on it.

IIRC, all CFI cars had some sort of operating flaps/scoops, even the vettes. But I have never seen and f-body with anything other than cast manifolds. I cannot speak for the vettes.

Not worth no ware near $12k or up. Tell him sell it to Kelly Blue Book or Nada guides, maybe they will buy it for there crazy bs #s. The last one I saw for sale was on EBay part's car section and was missing it's motor and some other stuff. It was a beater, but the starting bid was only like $400 and it did not even sell. I would say they are not worth a ton. Maybe worth something if you have one of every year of the Camaro pace cars?

An 82 pace car as described above should sell between $6500 and $9000 in my opinion depending on the condition of the car. I could have bought a nice one with the same 27K for $7600, but I offered $6500 and he wouldnt budge.
