HarleyD67 Feb 2nd, 06, 11:39 PM What kind of intake are you running? Also how do you plan to drive this car; strictly street manners, street/strip, or mainly strip? Without knowing the intake, but I'm guessing Edelbrock RPM. I would say for mainly street duty @ a 2000 stall. If it's more street/strip then I would suggest @ 2400 stall. But more info would help.
68 RS 302 Feb 3rd, 06, 06:19 AM Sorry. I knew I was forgetting something. Intake is an RPM Air Gap. This will be a street/strip car. Thanks.
68 RS 302 Feb 3rd, 06, 12:43 PM Come on guys..............anybody??
smalblock Feb 3rd, 06, 01:43 PM The company that you buy your converter from can give you the best advice. Jack
67ragtp Feb 3rd, 06, 07:18 PM Im really a 4-speed guy, but I feel compelled to recommend ATI. They have a line of convertors called treemasters, the guys I run with exclusively use them. Not to say there arent other good convertor companys out there. But I can honestly say these things flat out perform. I would give the guys at ATI a call and pick there brains on your set up, I would guess they will probably set you up with a 10 inch and still maintain reliable/good street manners.

BlackoutSteve Feb 4th, 06, 12:19 PM With the small amount of info and the high amount of guessing involved, you really can't accurately choose a converter speed.
Submit your details to a torque converter manufacture and have them make one to suit YOUR car. Please don't buy a "2500" off the shelf because it won't be a 2500 with YOUR engine.
They will most likely ask your engine's rpm in high gear at 60mph and suggest a converter at or below that rpm. Your engine's point of max torque will also be a factor and I'll tell you now, the seat of your pants won't guess it.
(I tried and was wrong by 1000rpm in a car I thought I knew well)
68 RS 302 Feb 4th, 06, 03:26 PM Well, it would be impossible for me so speculate on the amount of RPM at 60 MPH since I am building the engine right now and it has not been in the car yet to find out. Max torque is in the same boat since I couldn't say for sure. There must be some way to find out what is best for my car without having those exact figures???
BlackoutSteve Feb 5th, 06, 02:15 AM If you know your tire height, rear gear ratio and high gear ratio (overdrive?), then your rpm at 60 mph is easy.
Most tire manufacturers will state a tire height of a given size.
RPM = (MPH x Axle Ratio x 336) / Tire Diameter (in inches).
68 RS 302 Feb 5th, 06, 10:29 AM RPM@ 60 MPH=2779.9186
Does that help? My tire diameter is 27.05, I am running 255-60-15's on the back. I am running a THM 350 and I don't know the final ratio off of that though.
HarleyD67 Feb 5th, 06, 09:47 PM TH350's and 400's have a 3rd gear of 1 to 1.
