I have a 69 Z28 RS that is coded for a vinyl top. I bought is in a 1000 pcs. and someone cut the tabs off for the vinyl top. I need info on location of tabs and best way to install new tabs. Also need the chrome. The car is in primer.
Thanks,

I did this to a 69 about a year ago, it came out great. After I got the moulding I measured another car to see exactly where it went. Than I layed it in place and used a pencil to trace both sides of the moulding. Then I used pop rivets to hold the clips. The top went on good and the moulding popped right on and fit perfect.

I'm in the same boat with a 69. Eastwood has a device that reattaches the retainers you are talking about. I have not done mine yet and debating on whether to buy the device or not. Holes have been left in the roof of the car where the nubs were removed. It is in storage now, so I can't give you the locations at present.

I have a salvaged air conditioned car with vinyl top, unfortunately I can only help you
with the back panel and rear quarter's because I cut the car up and disposed of the roof. I have some of the chrome trim and plastic clip's if may need them.Where having server thunder storm's right now but when they pass I will go out back and get the measurement's on what's left of the car.

I have some of the measurement's to get you
started. The rear panel below the window has
8 pin's. Once you find the center of the rear panel measure 3" out on each side make your mark's for these 2.The other four pin's are 6" apart from each other. The 2 outside
pin's are 5 3/4" apart from the other's.Once
you make these mark's you have to measure
from the trunk seam up 3" for the six inside
pin's & the 2 outsde pin's measure 3 1/8"
from the trunk seam. Now for the quarter's,
the first pin measure's 5" from the trunk
seam & 1 7/16 from rear window panel seam.
The next pin is 6" away from the last pin & 4" from the outside quarter [side of car]seam
The next pin is 5 3/4 away frm last pin & 3 1/2" from outside quarter [side of car]
The next pin is 2" away from the last pin
3 1/2 from outside quarter [side of car]That's as far I can help because like I said last night I cut the roof off. But I assume the pin's going up onto the roof are approximately 6" apart. If you have the trim you can probably figure out were the other pin's go. Like I said last night I do have some trim & clip's if you need them.

Thanks for the detailed info on the pin locations. I am a machinist and it sure is nice to have such detailed info. I would be interested in any trim and clips you have. Let me know what you want for them + shipping.
Thanks again,

weaverdb,
My vinyl top car is currently being painted and I am not going to put a vinyl top back on.
e-mail me if you are interested in my trim pieces. I have all four pieces and they are in pretty good condition. I would have to check, but I think all of the clips are still good too. They may be rusty, so you may want to buy new ones anyway.
