I've had the car now for about a month and haven't had it on a lift to look for myself. But does anyone know what kind of trans this could be off the top of their heads. Gears are set up as...

__1 3
R_2 4

I've never seen this setup before and was wondering what kind this could be. I've only had one guy at a car meet give me somewhat of an explanation, that it was a set up that came out for racing so you wouldn't hit Reverse going for 4th. Any explanations welcomed. thanks.

A muncie 4-speed can be shifted this way if the reverse lever is bolted to the tranny upside down. All of the levers mounted on the transmission side cover should be pointing up. There are three levers and if the one closest to the driveshaft is pointing down your mystery is solved.

Where is a 4-speed Sag's reverse gear on the shifter ball pattern?

I know I've been told in the past before but I forget??

hi there, on the muncie, or the warner t10, there are 2 levers coming out of the sidecover, the shift arm plates that bolt to theses levers should be pointing up, the reverse lever coming out of the extension housing should have the shift arm plate pointing down which will give you the correct pattern like this R-1-3
2-4
which would eliminate any chances of shifting the trans into any of the forward gears. heres some quick info on how to (ID) your trans.
muncie 4spd is all aluminum with a 7 bolt side cover, the t10 can be aluminum or cast but will only have 2 camlevrs coming out of the sidecover which has 9 bolts holding the cover in place. the saginaw 4spd will be all castiron and have all of the 3 camlevers coming out of the sidecover, hope this helps good luck regards tom T&B Trans

you need to turn the reverse shift arm plate pointing down.

Thanks for the info guys. If the plate is turned the wrong way, will it hurt by leaving it this way? I've kind of gotten used to the shift pattern. Thanks again.

As long as it's not binding or rubbing I don't see a problem.
